Thanks - I'll take a look at the 70-300. It would be nice to have a tele for travel so I don't have to worry about bringing my 70-200E with me in sketchy areas.
Based on chatter and posted images, the new 70-300 and 70-300 DX are optically awesome. Even against top-grade SWM implementations like the 70-200E, the AF-P motor is fast as blazes. The lowly kit 18-55 AF-P will focus in half the blink of an eye on my D500. For sketchy-area walkabout, I'm upgrading from D500 + 55-200 DX AF-S to D500 + 70-300 DX AF-P. I can give up f/2.8 in this application, and lower weight doesn't hurt.
Awesome thanks. I am pondering what kit I should bring for my next personal project, so this is helpful.
I agree, I currently own the 10-20mm AF-P and 18-55mm AF-P that I use with a D5300 for a lightweight travel kit, these little lenses are amazing. I also owned the 70-300mm AF-P it too was amazing, but I sold it to get the FX version so I could use it on both my D750 and D5300. I find these lenses to perform very nicely. (I kept the 55-200mm VRII because I picked it up on sale for like $120 bucks, not too shabby).
