I looked out the back a couple of weeks ago and saw this guy sitting in a tree. Thought I would just get a portrait and was fiddling with manual focus when he went into the dive... figures.. anyway I did get part of what should have been a good sequence
Thanks, coincidentally I was a winter carnival last week and went to an indoor birds of prey demonstration, the owls have such keen hearing they must be able to hear the rustle of the vole on the ground under the snow
Yes owls have amazing hearing and their auditory system is specially adapted in many ways from asymmetrically placed openings which allow for better stereo location to cortical adaptations. I don’t think they would appreciate my EDM. Nice images.
Thanks to all, yes it is something that does not always happen in the back yard but an experience for sure. Not sure what happened but I used to have some posts up with bears, coyotes, odd birds, and the usual raccoons in the apple tree fall feeding ground.
Really like these, I enjoy hearing and seeing barred owls.I've seen them spread out like in 2, although not in snow. Maybe some sort of hunting? Good to get some idea.
Great set. The story is one all photograpers can relate to. If it were myself I would have taken the perfect sequence without a card in the camera! As it was, you captured some great picture, some of which are very caption worthy!
