Thanks for the feedback on the 15's, Guy. I'll keep them in mind when choosing.
Oh your welcome . It’s really a tough call, I really like them both. I went back to the CV from the Laowa because of size. I’m really intoo my MF kit being small, as I decided this kit is for Guy personal not Guy working Pro. I keep thinking about traveling the globe again and maybe it’s a dream but it’s kind of fun prepping for it. Also for me to go out and shoot on a personal level. I don’t want to feel like I’m working. Sounds weird but you know if your a carpenter there houses need a load of work type thing.

I have the CV 15, Laowa 15, and ZE 15. I find the Laowa "just right" from a size/performance ratio. My Laowa copy is better into the far corners than my CV 15, so that is another reason I prefer it.

The CV 110mm images look great. I like the color and contrast. With that being said, the Batis 135mm seems to have better bokeh. I personally never liked the Batis bokeh, especially when compared to the 135mm f2 Apo. I think the 135mm f2 Apo is still the best in its overall rendering. It could actually be purchased used for less than the CV 110.

Yes, my 135/2 APO will be going on the B&S forum soon for less than the 110/2.5 price now that I have the 135/1.8 Sigma and soon the 110/2.5 CV.
But before it goes I need to make a "battle of the 135s" between my 135/3.4 APO Telyt, 135/2 ZF.2, and now 135/1.8 FE Sigma.
The 135/2 APO has been our go-to portrait lens for our daughters over the last 10 years, but the Sigma will be taking its place.

That would be a great battle. I'm looking forward to seeing the comparison.

Looks nice so far!
Can we do a variation of the testing where we try to provoke abstract, "painterly" effects? I want to see this lens get WEIRD. Much more interesting to me than to see how sharp it can get (though HOLY SMOKES, that flower shot)
Like, maybe shoot a subject 3m away, but through a thicket or bare branches at 0.5m or so? Wide open, of course.

I hope you do and share the images you capture in a thread.

I took the lens with me to lunch break (with my A9) and took some samples, just shots various stuff that caught my eye, nothing systematic. It's a bit hazy and cloudy today. Enjoying the lens a lot so far. In my initial shooting it seemed to be quite easy to change the aperture setting unintentionally while shooting, need to pay some attention to that.

Thanks for the samples Juha!
My initial reaction on rendering is that it's similar to the CV 65/2 APO.
OOF rendering is smooth especially at close and MFD distances. A mid-distance it can be a tad harsh depending on the background. The lens is able to isolate the subject with superb resolution and contrast on the plane of focus.

Adorama and B&H do not have any yet or know when they are getting them in. Kind of surprised Adorama had a ship date of 12-5-18 but just talked to them they do not know when they will be getting theirs. I hope soon I have had my preorder in there for many months.

I prepaid for mine back in June on the day ordering became available at CameraQuest (US distributor for Cosina.) I'm still paranoid that somehow mine won't ship today. I've never had an issue with CameraQuest, but my usual level of paranoia comes into play here.

As far as I know, only CameraQuest will get them first and Stephen told me he still has room for the first delivery.
Better contact him for more details though.

Packing for a globe trotting trip depends on the style
of travel. Lengthy cruises and bus tours with definite
daily itineraries allow one to leave most equipment in
safes in cabin, room, or front desk while bringing
along lens/camera combos that are suitable for
that day's activity. For example, our last trip (5-week
cruise around Cape Horn from LA to Buenos Aires) my
wife and I brought 3 cameras and six lenses ranging
from 24-70 mm to 100-400 mm plus primes.
7D2 was useful for its built-in flash for inside photos
on the ship. (also carried external flash)
I am always mystified about how many fredmiranda.com
commenters say they bring second-rate, lighter
equipment to record once-in-a-lifetime, expensive
trips. If we have relatives in tow, we lend them
camera/lens combos (not latest models/don't sell
old equipment) so the relations can't complain about
photography hobby.
Obviously if we're going on a winter trip to Puerto
Vallarta to warm up, we would minimize.
Independent travel usually necessitates minimizing
the amount of equipment. We dress down and
put equipment in non-descript backpack when not
using.
Only theft we have had was a point and shot camera left on the dresser
of our hotel room in Greece in 1995.
After visiting over 100 countries in 25 years much of
our enjoyment is viewing photos and videos of these
trips.

Thanks Fred! I fully agree with your initial findings and I also feel that this lens is very similar to 65/2 APO in rendering. My only issue with the 65mm has been that in some situations bokeh is not so nice (as you mentioned).
I hope there'll be some nice weather this weekend to allow shooting much more (the weather forecast is promising).

Bulky and heavy camera gear can get it the way of a trip. Many times less than perfect gear (not the sharpest or non-AF or etc.) can be much smaller, lighter, etc. than the best there is allowing for an overall better experience.
It should not mystify you - it's a trade off that each traveler needs to figure out for their own experience.
One person's "second rate" is another person's optimal solution to their travel needs.
Personally, I go for lighter weight/more compact gear at the expense of optical perfection, but that's just me, how I travel, and where I go.
