Latest news this morning from CameraQuest. (US distributer)

"no new news yet on the 110, but it should be available in 2018"

I loosely translate that as:
"I don't really know"

and interpret the statement as we are not likely going to see it in 2018.

Great if we get it earlier, but not holding my breath.

Wouldn't mind this bad boy for wedding portraits...even though I have a Batis 135,the Voigtlander stuff always looks good.
* forgot,can't be shipped to Canada*...moving on.

How do you like the Batis 135 for wedding?

Its quite nice. I dont use it much during a wedding, just the couple portraits. I find subjects really pop in good lighting, the natural colors/contrast and sharpness are very good.
In average lighting the images need boosting.

Not sure if you've noticed but the SR website has published on Oct 29th that "Voigtlander 110mm FE lens preorders are back at BHphoto and Adorama".
Hopefully, that's a good sign that the actual shipments will start soon...Will try to make an inquiry at Robert White.

I noticed that the other day - I still would like to know when these will actually be available . . . .
Yes, let us know with the RW folks say.

Cosina hasn't published any updates about availability on their website yet but I think this time they will announce the actual release date just shortly before the actual date (like 2 weeks in advance).

Always wonder what's going on when a company releases a lens, shows working samples that appear to be nearly finished, then months and months go by before they are available while accepting pre-orders.

Yeah, well neither you nor I really know what's going on. Hopefully they won't cancel it. One would think they are committed to it now that they've taken pre-orders (or at least B&H, Adorama, etc. have taken pre-orders).

Really wish there was new info on this lens. I'm tempted to just get the 65mm with the Marumi+3 at this point.

Decided to place an order today. Hopefully it arrives sooner than later, and there's no "lens penalty" for being an early adopter.

Here's an interesting question. Let's say someone is equally as interested in macro and landscapes for a short-medium telephoto prime lens. Do they get a Loxia 85 with extension tubes/filters, or do they get a CV 110?

I wanted to get an idea of how the CV macro lenses do in terms of landscapes, compared to some of the best. I know the CV 65 is a killer do it all lens, and so is the CV 125 I've heard, but how do they match up with the Loxia 85 in terms of infinity focus?

I have a Tamron SP 90/2.5 that I took out for a long hike this past weekend, and while it did great for macro and portraits, I was pretty disappointed in it's infinity focus resolution.

If size and weight is of no concern, the CV 110 is more flexible. No one has the CV yet to say for sure.

From comments I've read on here (it might have even been Fred), I believe the CV 65 bests the Loxia 85...not by a lot, but the CV 65 is amazing.

The weight of the ~100mm macros was a bit off putting at first, but if the Loxia is weighing in at 600g and the CV 110 is 770g, I think I could use ~200g on 1:1 macro. It also helps that it's a bit more compact when not at 1:1 for easier storage in bags.

Great, thats the answer I was looking for! The Tamron 90/2.5 is awful at infinity, I wasn't sure if it was an inherent limitation of macro lenses, although I know other Zeiss macros do well as landscape lenses. Maybe it's all the adapting that's going on (Tamron Adaptall to nikon, nikon to sony).

One more question regarding landscape composition with a macro lens - there is no way to focus stack because change in focus is change in magnification. The only way to focus stack would be to MOVE the camera forward and backward to achieve the same magnification ratio across different focus planes, no?

This thought just came to my mind, haven't looked online yet.

There are those that still prefer the Loxia 85, from memory mainly due to the FL and Zeiss look. I remember someone saying it works well with extension tubes as well.

I believe the CV 65 is the sharpest lens I've ever owned. (I do also own the CV 125, but have never done direct a direct comparison.)

I don't focus stack, so hopefully someone else will jump in on that question. Frankly I hope more people jump in on the oveall comparison. I can say what I remember reading, but it's always best to hear it from the source.

Actually, for landscape purpose, it's best for you to vary the focus point, not using the focus rail (you need a long rail for that). Even for macro shot, it's still easier to change the focus point with minimal error. What a focus rail does is to give you the precision in shot spacing, important for high mag. macro.

I have focus stacked with the CV 65 on both macro subjects and for landscape. There can be a small change in magnification that can cause the need for slight cropping. Especially for macro I like to allow for some cropping in my composition if I know I am going to focus stack the image. For landscape tthis is less of an issue in my experience though there is some focus breathing in many lenses and one must be mindful of this.
