They actually dropped the price of the CV 65 after the initial release. I think just like Zeiss, Voigtlander is testing the water on these new lenses. They're charging way more than they used to. I remembered getting the CV 125 for like 700-800.

Ahh, that does put a twist on things. I'm DEFINITELY getting this lens the minute it's available - and have said as much to Steve via email. No problem with being an early adopter, I just can't afford to have (we're guessing) $600+ tied up in the ether. If it's going to be a while, I may end up getting a Loxia 21 in the meantime.

As a side note, I feel extremely lucky to have been an early adopter of the 40/1.2. Feels nice knowing it's backordered all the time, so if I ever do want to sell it, it'll be easy. No, I'm not going to get the 50, I really love 40mm FOV. Kinda sucks that the price on the 40 went up post facto, but let's be real- if the badge said Zeiss or Leica or even Nikon it would have fetched $2,000ish. More like $5,000 if it were Leica.

So, good on them for not selling themselves short.

.. As I'm secretly hoping the 21/3.5 is $450 .

Voigtlander is notorious for increasing their prices after lenses are released. Pre-ordering is the best way to protect yourself from price hikes. This happened with the CV 10, CV 12, CV 40/1.2 and CV 50/1.2 VM lenses. (That I know of)

21/3.5 is now announced on Cosina's web site:
http://www.cosina.co.jp/seihin/voigtlander/e-mount/e-21mm/index.html

Coming in October (specific date not defined). Official Japan price is 85 000 JPY which means that street price in Japan will probably be somewhere around 70-80K JPY including tax.

Some samples:
http://www.cosina.co.jp/gallery/oomura-21-3_5/index.html
http://www.cosina.co.jp/gallery/koike-21-3_5/index.html
(1st set of samples was incorrectly linked originally but seems to be fixed on the site now.)

Update: 75330 JPY in Map Camera including tax:
https://www.mapcamera.com/item/4530076233089

That is about 670 USD according to Google currency conversion.

Is it just me that thinks the exif info on those samples makes no sense?

At least the shutter speeds look strange, 1/5000 on 4 out of 5 photos though some of them seem to have subject movement and would be surprising if shutter speed was that fast e.g. inside the train. I guess there might be something wrong with some of the data...

Update: I am referring to the 2nd set of samples (showing something that looks like Indian scenery) on the site as originally the first set was linked incorrectly and pointed to some 15/4.5 samples.

That's the ones I saw, looks like India.

Shutter speed too high, ISO 200.

Then there's the one taken from the train window in day light at 1/10 and f/3.5?

Was this morning in the official reseller of VC lenses in Australia and while there they got an email confirming that the first bunch of 21mm will be distributed end of October. They don't have indication yet from the manufacturer for the 110 macro.

Yeah, those EXIF numbers look suspect too. Anyway, I'm not paying that much attention to their samples as it's usually pretty hard to evaluate anything from them...

The price is pretty much as I expected, comparing to Loxia price at Map Camera, the new CV is only 42% of the price (75K vs. 178 K JPY).

I will go and make a prebooking this evening to make sure I can get one from the initial delivery

It's cheap, but is it good? That's the question. Hope to see some reviews soon.

Most likely Myanmar (Burma). The pics give the impression that the photographer is not quite proficient.

If it is at least 90% of the Loxia in IQ, then it will be a big winner. At almost half the weight and considerably shorter it will surely make a difference in the bag when wanting to travel light.

Cosina played it smart with the 52mm filter thread too. Will make it easier for those thinking to switch.

Personally I really like my Loxia 21 but if this smaller CV21 can perform excellently from f/3.5, then it might make me think of switching. I'm always happy to carry less weight and bulk.

Looks like it doesn't have the option to de-click the aperture like some of their other lenses.

I was looking forward to this when it was announced back in March but in the mean time I managed to get a used Loxia 21 so it's going to be hard to justify! The size and weight are very appealing and there isn't a huge difference in the aperture.

If the Voigtländer 21/3.5 FE turns out to be nice, I'd like a Voigtländer 90/3.5 FE as well, which could be combined with the Zony 35/2.8 for a small & light kit.

I never got the Loxia 21mm because of the price, I went with Batis 18mm instead (at the same price point) but later when I got the 16-35/2.8 GM I sold the Batis. I'm looking forward to adding this 21/3.5 to my native MF kit, the small size is definitely a big plus for me. I don't have any of the 10 / 12 / 15 CV lenses now so this 21mm will be my widest lens in the MF kit. I figured I'd use the 2 Sony zooms (12-24/4 and the GM) for the wide end as they are more versatile, but it's nice to have a small option too. Already made my pre-booking.

Is there a thread for the Voigtländer 21/3.5 FE as well? Couldn't find.

Hard to take away much from the low-res photos, except for the usual awesome Voigt sunstars from the 10-blade aperture, showing nicely at F4 (if the exif is correct) in the last image of the first set of samples.

Wow, nothing obviously objectionable in those sample images. Let's hope it stands up to further high rez scrutiny once this lens makes it out into the wild.

I will be pre-ordering
