I know some extol the virtues of Sony's integrated mics, but that's not something I'm worried about- I'm using external mics regardless.
And we don't know how loud or quiet Tamron's USM motor will be, or how it will interact with Sony's mics.
that's because in canon land, you cant get usable audio regardless, it's worse than cell phone. With sony, I can get usable audio, no worse than cell phone, and with much cleaner video. I can export directly to phone via playmemories and straight to social media, clean quality videos. Tamron mentions quiet focus for video, no reason not to believe them, since they already produce quiet lens with their 24-70g2, which is optimized for stills and video.
having an external mic can work in some circumstances, and I have a rode for that, but casually capturing clips is something I very much enjoy from sony.

I can't wait for the canon ones to drop to 100 bucks so I can pick one of them up instead. Unless pricing is sub 700US they really need to nail price on this for it to succeed with best results.

Interesting, I honestly thought the Sony was bigger than that, or this Tamron is larger than it appears in the photos. Guess it'll come down to price. 28-75 is a nice range to me, and f/2.8 is useful too. But probably wouldn't pay a premium over the apparently excellent 24-105.
Also, my biggest concern is that I've hated Tamron colors in the past, though that is admittedly based on 1 copy of 1 lens (70-300 SP - way too warm)...

Is this a reworked version of their 28-75/2.8 for Nikon/Canon ? If so that lens was VERY well received as being 95% as good as the Nikon/Canon versions.
Forecast big sales for this if it is, especially with Tamron's burgeoning reputation for fine glass (though I don't see the SP designation mentioned anywhere). Does the gold ring mean anything ?
Also came in a Sony version. And then Sony also rebadged it into their terrific SAL28-75/2.8. Great lens. Dated AF in the Sony version, though. A good AF motor upgrade would make it stellar. The Sony coatings were better than Tamron's. The Tamron had a bit of a yellow cast to it that was weird. But at f/4, wow was that lens sharp.

Any third party lens is a good start. The total lack of third party zooms makes this an exciting release. As with every lens, it is impossible to judge without a price and someone testing it. I am not sure I am wowed enough to preorder one, but I will applaud tamron for the effort.

I’d guess it’s going to be $1100. The Tamron 18-200mm E lens was pretty expensive when it came out, not much cheaper than the Sony 18-200 equivalent at the time.

What you need is for Tamron to make an extremely sturdy, weather-resistant MC-11-style adapter for EF -> FE. The native mount won't do anything for you.

That's going to be tough. Sigma MC-11, Metabones = Positioning.

That’s what I’m expecting. Tamron’s 24-70/2.8 is 1199. I’m still thinking 899 or 999. But it’s also the Sony ecosystem so no telling...
Also, glad I’m not alone in seeing Tamron’s yellow cast...
the original 24-70 2.8 vc, was selling for 800 after MIR about a year after its release. It had more range, a VC system, and larger glass elements. I dont know about release price, but would not be surprised if this sells for 600 within a year after its release. we shall see.

Now what I would like to see would be a 35-105 f2.8 lens. This combined with the 16-35GM and 100-400GM would make for an awesome kit. Add 2 A7rIII's and the small FE55, 85 and 28 (preferably a better performer wide open than the present version) and I would have all the lenses and bodies I ever need.

Image of the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 vs the new E mount 28-75 f/2.8 from Tamron's FB page. The new E mount lens is about the same length but with MUCH LESS girth.
The image on top shows you the first real world image of the new 28-75mm f/2.8 FE lens. On the left you see their current 24-70mm f/2.8 for Canon. Tamron Hong Kong also unveiled some more interesting tidbits on their facebook page: 1. They aim to compete with 2470GM with this lens 2. They aimed to priced lower or near the 2470z 3. They would ship it as early as end of april, no later than May. (Might varied on region, i read some people claimed late may. 4. Brand new design, not directly from old 2875 2.8 from EF/Nikon F 5. This lens should designed with the hope to feed the a7r2/3 sensor, so it might mean it’s able to resolve 40M+ pixel sensors 6. This is not for certain: when asked about other zoom lens from Tamron, like “1530 2.8 is a great zoom lens, but i need an adapter”, they replied Commiing soon….” or “Wait for further news”. I would like to gently ask you whether you have news on Tamron Native FE Lens rumors?...Show more →
I also noticed on the Tamron FB page that when the text was translated it said: We would like to make a balance in a few ways, if we take the focal length into 24 mm, the size of the lens will likely turn 24 % off, and it will be a bit of a lens for Sony A7 / A9. Feeling, so we hope to provide a middle-of-the-road and alternative choice to all of us.
Tried to link to the image on FB but it didn't work.

I will tell you ...I rented a tamron 70-200 2.8 G lens recently for my canon and was VERY impressed with the image quality and focusing accuracy, generally better and more pleasing than the Canon version.. It was just too heavy for me long term, but if they can get that kind of quality in this lens...I will be there to buy

Read though the Tamron Page. Google Translate is comical at best, but one thing discussed that they failed to mention, is Eye AF is looking iffy.

So Tamron thinks quality will be better than the 24-105 and on par with the 24-70 GM.

Certainly would be nice if the quality is at the 24-105 level. I would certainly consider this for the 2.8 if thats the case. But Im not rushing to sell my 24-105 until its fact for sure.
I ran into some really low light shooting last night and had to pull out my 28 f2 and 40 1.2 which is not fun for a PR gig. Stage stuff the 24-105 was fine but there is a limit for F4 sometimes. Obviously I think many would prefer 2.8 in some cases. Just have to see if there predictions is real world or not. Im still going ahead with my Loxia 25 or Batis 25

For what it's worth, they seem to say it'll be better than 24-105/4 quality, and on par with 24-70GM quality. Might be splitting hairs there, but... it's what they claim. Definitely looking forward to reviews.
