I'm keeping an eye on this 28-75mm/f2.8 and the 24-105/f4. I don't think I would miss the 4mm on the wide end (we have 16-35GM already). The f2.8 and smaller size/weight are appealing. I'm wondering if it will revive my interest in zooms.

I hope the Tammy has nice sunstars.

What I really want is a 24-70 gm, but not at those ridiculous prices. If this comes in at $850, I’ll give it a serious look as my fast native normal zoom. I would prefer 24-70mm over 28-75mm, but if the Tammy performs I will likely give it a try. Heck, at 550g it could be part of my hiking kit too.

Do we have any idea on a release date yet? Snagged a good pre-order deal At £1000 for the 24-105 but this is tempting..

https://www.dpreview.com/interviews/2082884271/tamron-interview-our-strength-is-high-quality-lenses-in-a-compact-size

"Is the new 28-75mm a completely new design?

It is, yes."

"We’re not planning on making Sony E-mount versions of our existing lenses, no. Our concept is a little different to Sigma’s. We’re trying to customize lenses specifically for FE, otherwise they’d be too big."

Strong words, hope it delivers.

They delivered the Batis lenses so we can expect good results. It's an important lens for them, the first in FE under their own name - kind of like the CV 65/2 APO was for Cosina. As well, you hear good things about the DSLR primes and their 24-70/2.8.

Outside the pro 2.8 lens from Sony, people will have a choice between wide range and f4 (24-105/4) or 28-75 and f2.8, both of them light and 'affordable'. One thing to like right off is the wide inner extension of the outer zoom body sleeve; compare the image at DPR with the much narrower tubes of Sonys zooms shown at PZ:

http://www.opticallimits.com/sonyalphaff/1034-sony24105f4goss
http://www.opticallimits.com/sonyalphaff/997-sony2470f28gm

It's easy to envision a range of excellent primes from these switched-on people, in the middle FLs where they are needed. Unlike certain others, they are taking mirrorless very seriously, and openly talk about declining DSLRs and C/N MILC entries.

I am curious how this will perform compared to the Sony 24-70/4 and 24-105/4

As I think about spending a couple weeks in Iceland, I think having a mid range zoom might be handy for windy and rainy days.

Keep the Loxia 21 or Voigtlander 15 on the A7R and use a zoom on the A7S or NEX 6 for auto focus and zoom range.

Don't even wait...get the 24-105 fe lens....it is the sharpest zoom I ever owned....and I have owned lots in 6 different systems. Esp good at 24 mm...kind of defies all reasonable expectations.,

I have both Canon L lenses 28-70mm f/2.8 and 24-105mm f/4, which have been little used since my time with Canon was short and they really didn't perform well on my Sonys until the A9. The smaller size of the Tamron and the fact that they know how to build a good lens has me following this thread. I think that I will end up with either the Tamron 28-75mm, or the Sony 24-105mm and my decision will likely hinge on the initial reports as to if the Tamron performs like a native lens and how it delivers at f/2.8.
We aren't going anywhere with this thread until the lens is released.

It has to act like a native lens as far as AF for me or it’s a no go right out of the gate. Right now I have a very good copy of the 24-105 but I could really use a 2.8 lens so I’m willing to switch it out but only if it can perform.

Guy I won't switch the 24-105 for the Tam but there are times when I'd carry the Tam over the Sony. And Bwcolor this thread will continue--we love to hope and speculate

Hows the color, contrast on the 24-105? I read it needs a lot of boosting in both areas.

Thanks Fred!

"With the good overall bill of the Tamron optics, and still not belonging to the superior SP series, the Tamron 28-75 mm f / 2.8 Di III RXD, with its 550 g of weight offers in the hand a good feeling of solidity , and on the small Sony of the range A / a reasonable balance of masses, as we could verify on foot of stand at the Japanese fair.

This optics, which obeys a new aesthetic, common to the aforementioned Tamron 70-210 mm Di VC USD and more "tubular" than the SP series, will be released in mid-2018, at a price not yet announced, although it will be surely an interesting alternative to the current "standard" zoom optics for Sony E (FE) frames, taking into account the attractive quality / price relationships with which this independent manufacturer usually works"

Bottom line for me a this focal length range in a weight that won't induce carpel tunnel lifting it.
My 3 amigos are currently the 12-24, 24-105, 100-400. I can see times when I might sub out the 24-105 with the Tam28-75. I'd miss some mm's here and there but non too critical.
Wonder if it can hold the 20fps of the a9?

As I have only two zooms (Sony 16-35/4 and Sony 70-300/4.5-5.6) I'm very happy with Tamrons decision. Primes are my favor but for the versality I always wanted a f2.8 mid-zoom on top. The tamron looks like made for me.

I will get a review copy whenever it will be released.. I'm really excited about Tamrons decision to offer a much smaller zoom lens instead of offering the 24mm on the short end. I will buy it if it performs as good as they claim.

I find the rendition of the 24-105 pretty flat.

I find that color and contrast are fine...with digital those parameters have more to do with the sensor itself..thats why we have photoshop. here's a link to full size jpegs right out of camera....

Here's some recent wedding shots with it....of course, processed to my liking.
