Dave, did you have any issues taking your kit into the zoo ? What was the biggest lens you took? Did you take a tripod ?
I've been in there with a flock of photographers and we all had long glass and tripods. As long as you don't block the walkways or otherwise disturb other guests (eg. the animals running around on the outside of the cages) your fine. I wouldn't suggest the tripod on the weekends...
And you can safely ignore the no commercial usage of photos restriction on the ticket. Zoo's have been trying to make that stick for years and it doesn't work in court. Animals do not have a "right to publicity or privacy" under the law, so you can use the image commercially if you have a buyer.
"Lives" might be overstating it a bit. Sadly I haven't been doing much with the camera in the past few months, but hope to be changing that in the next few weeks as the airshow and racing seasons get under way.
BTW, speaking of flashes, I just sold my SB600 and SB800.

and got 2 x SB900.
I'm still figuring them out.
Pros: More features. Very cool zoom (proportional - 17 to 200mm). Improved interface. Knows and reacts to Full Frame vs Crop.
Cons: Bigger and heavier.
OK, how is this for weird. Testing my new SB900s, I found an issue with high speed sync and fast continuous shooting. Went online and found a firmware update. For a freakin' FLASH
Installed the update and it now works like magic. In high speed shooting with Auto ISO, the camera figures out how much juice the flash has left (when less than a full charge) and adjusts the ISO so you can still get the shot.
In a test of 7 shots @ 5fps (Manual: 1/500; f6.3; ISO Max 3200) I got ISO: 1000, 1100, 1100, 1400, 2800, 3200, 3200.
The second last shot was dark - insufficient light despite the high ISO but the following (last shot) the flash had recovered nicely. All of the shots were about evenly exposed.
Have to say I am very happy with the performance.
Flash firmware is updated by the camera - really cool.
How are things in Atlanta? I am sitting in the Philadelphia Airport right now waiting to board my Flight to Atlanta for a business Trip. First time there!
I packed my Camera - Any sites I should see while I am there? Things to take pictures of?
Alpharetta is approx 30 - 45 min north of the airport and downtown Atl. Depending on how much time you have there is the Aquarium in downtown Atlanta and approx 1- 1 1/2 hrs north of Alpharetta are the North Ga mountains.
You could try West Palisades on the Chattahoochee. I was there a little over a week ago and the trout lilly's were starting to show up and Sweet Betty's were popping up.
This is what happens when you 1) get bored, 2) need to play with your camera and 3) need better photoshop skills... Out of about 100 images taken in this session with the 5d2, here is the first couple I processed.
This is 1 photo, mirrored and colorized in PS: I'd have some other things creatively I'd like to do to this- but I can't translate it into PS "steps" yet- so this is where I quit http://www.lowbyte.com/pix/web-SmkVorlon-75.jpg
Can anybody guess what the "subject" was?
About an hour in photography and an hour wasted in PP... (This is ignoring the fact you can go eat dinner while loading and processing the card from the camera with 23Mb raws and 7Mb jpgs out of the camera)
