Very nice stuff, Jon-U. BTW, I got your msg, will call later this week. Missus is returning from her Seattle trip this evening.
I just unpacked my new monitor (NEC 2690WUXi). First thing I checked is that the light hardly varies at all when changing position in my chair. Especially in the vertical axis, my old monitor (and all TN panels I have seen) get much darker if you move your head down. Now I can sit up or slouch down and get the same view This one has a H-IPS panel.
Now all I have to figure out is how to set it up properly, then calibrate it. It currently looks warm - running in Native mode (whatever that is).
wow, congrats, that is a really nice monitor. I was set to order one when I ran into my steal of a deal on the Dell I got. I think you will really like it...
Thanks Mark. I took a long time deciding which one to get and of course price played a big part. I believe this is good 'bang for the buck'. I got it for $1025 delivered and it comes with a 4 year factory warranty. I'll probably have to spend another $100 on the Spectraview-II software which is used to profile the internal 12 bit LUT. The software will work with my existing colorimeter.
Now I really need to get out and take some photos.

From 1999 to 2003 i went from 1.3 mega pixel to 6.3 and the difference in my images is crazy... i still have the old kodak images and the color on them is just absurd and horendous. it would also take about 10 images and then the batteries would be toast
the advancements experienced in the last decade are incredible, so yes i'm always excited to see the next big thing. i've always been a huge fan of tech so thats really what it stems from, given that cameras are just now computers and nothing more.

Marc, I heard the 5d2 is only 1 mp and uses a craftsman 12 volt car battery. You'd probably be better holding off getting one until I can afford it as well..
Glad I have my ThinkTank belt/harness system- it will help me carry the battery with the camera.
Speaking of think tank...I finally had an opportunity to stop in to Drury's camera store up here. They seemed to have a pretty good general selection of gear overall. There may be a bit of a Nikon slant (sigh...)
Anyway, they had a really good selection of think tank stuff in stock which was nice. Their pricing appears to be in line with what you see around the web so that is good as well. It will be nice being able to actually see the piece before buying it.
A different topic: There is a nice blue Adorama ad at the top of the screen this morning. Would you rather see that or pay a subscription fee? Personally I would rather subscribe and keep the desktop free of junk as I find it distracting. I don't mind in the the least Fred generating some revenue, I would just like to do it in a different way.
Cool, I went to the Forum thread to see if there were any comments on the banner ads. There is a thread and it mentions ad blocker for firefox. I added it and it seems to work just fine and since I use firefox it was a no brainer...
I started photography in the late 70's....I had a Petri Rangefinder that my dad gave me. I wish I still had it....
I then got a Yashica FX. My friend had a Canon AE-1 and that was what I really wanted. I stayed with the Yashica till a friend of my dads gave me a Minota 35-135 Zoom...so I bought a MD5 and winder for I could use that lens. I kept that camera well into my Air Force term...till I finally bought my dream camera.....the Canon A-1. At one point I had two A-1's with motordrives...and a couple lens. Loved those cameras. I used them for almost 10 years....then one day I just stopped taking pictures. The cameras sat till I sold them.
Couple years go by....bad relationship ends....new relationship starts...new outlook on life....going through boxes that I had moved several times since my college years but never had opened...we find some old black and white shots I did in college....matted and everything. She loves them. Hangs them around the house. These things have never been hung up before.....this sparks a new interest in photography. I started seeing things again. Picked up a couple mags and found the Canon XTI. Great little camera but I out grew it quick. Next came the 40D. Outstanding camera. I started shooting more sports so I picked up a MKII. Didn't like it as much as the 40D so I sold it, got another 40D and some more L's....then one day I fell into the current dream camera for me.....the MKIII...and I love it.
I have the Think Tank belt, Top loader 80, the 70 pouch, one to hold a water bottle, the chimp pouch and just ordered the harness and flash pouch. I love mine.
Hersch; beautiful photos amazing detail and very crisp; well done as usual.
My first camera was an advantix kodak camera; I thought the new film types were cool you could switch between panoramic and full frame I'm fairly young so I was in college when I bought the digital rebel - my first SLR. I didn't start buying glass until i got the XSi. Just found out my dad has a 1ds MIII but not much glass. I'll have to steal it from him.
Here are a few advantix pix for memory sake (about 14 at the time) and definitely no PP
Also maybe some idea/motivation to bring your families somewhere cool
