I made my annual pilgrimage to the Sax-Zim Bog of North Minnesota to photograph the Great Gray Owls that winter there. My previous 2 trips there were fruitless. But third time was a charm for me.
I wanted to get some in-flight shots of the owl. But I was there only in the morning and unfortunately I missed the couple of times that it flew around.

Very nice. I was there 12/22 and 12/23. When were your shots taken? I may have some of the same bird.
Hi Aaron, I was there on the morning of the 23rd. Me and my 3 other friends got there at sunrise and we drove down Admiral and McDavitt roads quite a few times. Saw 2 GGOs and 3 NHOs. Then we went to Mary Lou's feeders to see if there were any Evening Grosbeaks, but came back empty. We left around 1:30 pm.
Were you alone or with somebody? I wonder if we ran into each other.
Amit,
I was there all day on the 22nd and the 23rd. I was alone in an older, green Dodge Grand Caravan. I shot out my window on a beanbag most of the time. I think I saw you and your friends.
I saw one GGO on Lake Nichols Road, one on Admiral on the 22nd. Middle of the afternoon on the 23rd I saw one on McDavitt. Only one other photographer came up after I found that bird. I did alert some others after the owl flew into the woods that it may come back out to hunt some more. I got some great shots and needed to head back down to the Twin Cities to pick up my family.
