Face detection finds a face regardless of EYE AF or on regular AF it’s a green square box. I turn that on in the menu. When you setup a custom button for example I use AEL so I change eye Af to AEL button so when I activate that at press I get Eye AF which is a small green box but if you get out of the Phase Detect zone it automatically switches to face detect. You have to have 2 AF buttons. On the A9 like he A7r3 I have AF on as normal af and AEL as Eye AF. Some folks use center dial push for Eye Af and that maybe the default. But you need it’s own button for Eye AF. Face detect if on will do it in either mode.
Also, eye auto focus does not toggle on and off (I think!). You have to hold the button down. That is why it should be mapped to a button that you can find quickly like C1, C2, AF-On, or AEL.
Don't map to C1 or C2 because you will need your finger for the shutter
Thanks guys, I thought I read somewhere (I'll look tonight, dpreview perhaps?) the A7RIII is able to do eye detect automatically now. Olympus and Panasonic cameras you dont need a separate button you can configure near or far eye which snaps to focus at shutter. Dig, I bet (hope) it's there =p.

Wow that looks fantastic and the fit seems perfectly tight and neat from your photos so really not sure what they can improve.
My cheapo ones is decent in most areas but has one that is a BIG horrible one which is the one this photo.
I assume yours is perfect there too?
Wow - that case is really bad. The LIM's case touches the grip around the full circumference.
My hands are just too big for the A7X/A9 series of cameras so I have always used either an L-Bracket or vertical grip - mostly the vertical grip. I like the LIM's case better than the L-Bracket and can really use it since it has the built-in Arca Swiss plate. I wasn't certain that I would like the 'pimped-out' look of the red stitching, but when actually on the camera, it looks nice.

Correct there is no toggle on and off . You need to press it and hold like normal AF on

I never seen it but if anywhere you might be able to that is on half press of shutter. But I think there smoking something special.

I've been playing with the new A7R3 today. I'm very impressed with how improved it feels. For those Canon folks - it feels like going from a 5D to a 1DX. Everything responds so much faster and it feels like a little brick. Looking at all the menus of options is a bit intimidating though. It seems like even more pages than the R2 had. Luckily for most of my work, a lot of it can be ignored. Someone should make a very detailed tutorial on how to set the cameras AF up. With Canon is was easy as most pro assistants were experts but with Sony they scratch their heads. The price we pay for being rebels at the bleeding edge I guess!

I'm seeing a lot of Canon shooters getting their first Sony.

I don't see EFCS on/off as an option.
Dang. I guess that is the only thing I really dive for into the menu for now, so not a huge deal. It would be great to have an auto-off after a certain shutter speed, but I guess that would add some shutter lag?

Thanks for checking, Fred.
It was one of the first settings I checked when I got the camera.
The good news is that when you use 'Silent Shutter' for somewhat static subjects, you don't have to worry about it. There won't be any change in rendering at high shutter speeds.

That is a good point and also My Menu as you mentioned, is so good. Sure I still which it was assignable to a button but My Menu makes it a LOT better than before. I am a happy camper.
