p.1 #1 · Sirui W-2204 Shim Replacment

I lost a shim on my W-2204 Sirui Tripod, and Sirui won’t sell me a replacement since it was not purchased from a recognized seller. Anyone know if someone in the states sells replacement shims? I was also trying to think of a way to create one myself, and glue it to the leg. It’s extremely frustrating...I doubt I will buy another Sirui Tripod at how frustrating this experience has been.

Hi jkochuni,

First off, there's no point blaming Sirui, if you bought from an unauthorized dealer, and the issue was of your own making. Were you trying to get this issue resolved under warranty?

That said, it doesn't solve your problem, does it. Why not find a local dealer who sells Sirui, and see if you can order parts from them. If the issue of "where did you buy the tripod?" comes up,,,, just tell them you received it as a gift, and you don't know where it was purchased. A shim kit should be quite cheap, and it certainly would be worth the effort.

Nikon or Canon parts are generally not available either, whether the product is grey market or not. Nowadays manufacturers want to control all the parts and service.

how did they know it is not from an authorized dealer? I bought mine from amazon, but don't have the receipt i don't think. I have contacted them before, and they were quick to respond - but i haven't had to contact them in regards to repairs/parts.

I know the part you are talking about. Perhaps a trip to Home Depot/Lowes or an art store for something? Only think that i can think of is maybe a really thin piece of aluminum or something that can be cut to size? or gaffers tape? Weird that they would not just send you the piece

I contacted them, and they will not help since it was purchased from an auntgorized dealer. They checked the serial number for me.

Amazon keeps track of every order, as does B&H. On Amazon check "Orders" at the upper right. I can track orders going back years. I just dug up a receipt for a Logitech keyboard bought nearly 3 years ago. Sadly, Logitech refuses to cover worn keys. Lettering wears off. You can search by date or product name, based on email addy. I had to change my email at Amazon and talked to a tech who got everything done in 2 minutes. She said it would "take up to 24 hours for the change to filter though all the databases."

Why not claim it was a gift?

They have to have a serial number and bill of sale to provide service.

That would be the case if the OP was asking Sirui USA (the USA distributor/not the manufacturer) for free replacement of defective parts under warranty. If the OP is simply looking to purchase replacement shims, this should not be an issue. It would be nobody's business but the OP's, as to where and how he received his tripod.

I routinely buy Gitzo parts and accessories from GitzoSpares.com in the U.K., and not once has anyone intervened to ask where, or how, I received my tripods. They don't ask me for a serial number,,, nor even a model name or number of the four Gitzo tripods I own. I don't speak with another human, period.

I go to the site,,,enter a model number in a search window,,hit "enter",,, and they show me an exploded diagram for whatever tripod I'm looking into. The parts are all individualy identified and numbered, as well as the price. I pay the bill,,,they send the goods, and 2 days later, FedEx knocks at my door with the package.

The OP should be able to go to any Sirui dealer, and order the parts he needs. He's paying for those parts,,, not Sirui USA,,,

Even if not under warranty? It's only a tripod.

I made some shims for a Gitzo 2531 while I was waiting for the 'Slow Boat' to deliver from Gitzo in Italy. Used thin plastic tube from Home Depot. Had to deform a bit of the plastic to catch on the hole that holds the shim in place. The Gitzo parts arrived after 8 weeks. The 'real' parts worked better but my cobbled up shims did work.
You could also try to order parts from a different brand of tripod. Maybe Induro?
