Are you going to remove the factory screen protector first, or just double up on the protectors?
Did not know it already had one. On my a7rii I just put one on but it was not the glass type. I do not think. Regardless I hope I do not have to remove anything on the a7riii and easily just install the new protector. Is it the 30th yet!

All the Sony cameras come with a screen protector installed. Unfortunately, I didn't learn this until after Sony charged me $300 to replace the one on my A7R.

I wonder how that’s possible... a small store selling already? Sammy’s said they are under embargo... can’t sell before the 30th but wiggle room might allow them to ship on the 29th.

That’s not a LCD protector. If anything it’s just a film shield to protect the LCD in shipping . I honestly don’t remember any Sony having it on.
Guy, they all have a fairly substantial plastic cover on the screen. Most people don't know it's there until it starts to delaminate and the LCD starts to look really ugly around the edges. The covers on the A7II series are fairly thin, but the ones on the original A7 series are quite thick.
Here's the protective cover starting to peel off one of my A7R's a couple of years ago:

At least an rx100 III I had, did have a stock protector but it does not look like a glass protector you buy and add, it looks like really part of the LCD itself and was a pain to remove but it can be done and then I added a 3rd party protector. I only did it cause the original one was scratched otherwise I just put the new protector directly on the LCD as it is.

I don’t think you pull this off though. I never have. That’s a permanent cover glass to seal it.
The instructions on the lcd protector we buy for 29 dollars from Sony do not say anything about removing the factory glass.
I would not do that as it may effect your warranty.
It's not glass, it's just an adhesive plastic film. Putting another piece of plastic film on top of the original one makes about as much sense as stacking two skylight/UV "protection" filters on the front of your lenses...
Here's a good YouTube video explaining how to replace it (and apparently, this is all the Sony service centre does, for only $300...)

Amazing! I never knew this. I have used a cover on my A7RII from the beginning so the factory applied one is fine but I have gone through 2 glass covers, often leaving them broken for a while because of the type of work I do that is tough on the camera and I don't feel like replacing them all the time. My recently applied screen looks great but I had not idea that there was a plastic cover. I recently did my M9 with a glass cover and it made the screen, minus one lover scratch, look like new. Thanks for posting!
Oh, and I took a loop to the screen of the A7RII and I can see the edge of the plastic cover. Interesting. I wish the M9 had this.

Question for those who have the R3 already:
How much better is the dial on the back?
On the R2, I have it disabled because its too easy to change.
Is it stiff enough to be usable on the R3? What do you have it assigned to if it is?
Just bought this one myself. Should have it tomorrow. Looking forward to the small form-factor and the flexibility of USB charging. Can't complain about the price.

Well that's interesting. I had no idea there was already a clear plastic film on there. However, that film is clearly held on with way more adhesive than your average screen protector - and if you're not careful, removing it could warp or damage the screen. I wonder if this is considered user replaceable without impacting warranty?

Agree and Im not playing that game and risking screwing up the whole assembly. I see no ill effect of added a glass cover or even a plastic one. I take it off after I'm done with the camera and ready to sell its in its original state.

I think it is perfectly usable, definately better than the flimsy one we had in earlier models. Obviously this depends on the user, but I cannot think of accidentally changing the values via the control wheel.
I configured WB selection into it, the choices are Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, WB, Creative Style and Picture Effect. The only complaint I have is that the I cannot access "submenus" (customize the custom WB entries) via this interface.
