When is the A9R predicted to be introduced ?
Note the phototype has only 4 screws
Since no camera by that name has ever been announced by Sony, I wouldn't put any stock in that or any other depiction or specification you find on the internet.

Agreed, a9 is like the 1DXii and D5. No need for an 'R' after it.
The a9ii might have 30mpx and 30fps though
and the Gods might smile and find 2 x UHS-II slots.

Yeah, if you've got the a7r2, I can see where this one may not be worth the cost of upgrading. Personally, I see dual cards (one being faster) and a bigger battery as the two biggest factors as to why I'd now upgrade to a Sony a7.
Were you able to try the Sony vs the 5dmk4 for astro? How much difference did the star eater problem have between the shots? Really hoping they haven't added the same issue into the new one here

Theres nothing I see which is a must have for this for me.
Increased DR well ~ 1 top if it happens would be ok but I am very sceptical without resorting to nikon like base iso 64.
Dual cards - meh
bigger battery - downside
better viewfinder - good
af/fps - couldnt give a stuff. Looks like the sensor/pdaf points are the same just tweaked software.
Loss of apps - incredulous. Ok never really pushed these and its a pain to do but there are some good ones.
Sony give me a decent firmware for the a7r mk2 fix the star eater bugs and give me a compressed lossless raw ffs....Show more →

Sony have redesigned the circuitry around the sensor to lower the noise floor. If the read noise is lower then DR can be improved. Only the sensor is the same, not the rest of the circuitry and imaging pipeline. Of course measurements will verify this, but it would be a silly thing to claim when it can be easily checked.
Well, we'll see. I find it interesting that in the actual product page for the camera they are really claiming nothing and nothing nearly so concrete. The noise floor was already quite low on the A7rII, so I remain skeptical. If they did lower the noise floor I stick by my assessment that it won't increase DR more than about a quarter of a stop.

It might be a case of DxO shows 1 stop increase but the actual photographic real world DR is only 1/4 stop or so better. Read noise was already low, but things like how fast the ADC's are clocked can also introduce DR limiting noise which is why A9 DR is much lower. If they have cleaned up the whole pipeline it might not be unreasonable to see a larger than expected improvement.

I was going to preorder tomorrow but because it won’t ship till late November why not wait and hold my money till then and wait for the reviews to come in and firm up my decision

It seems to me that the A7R III is indeed intended as a D850 competitor (not only, but...). It adresses the complaints and wants of Sony shooters (battery life, AF, dual cards, etc...) and then adds performance where D 850 cannot match it: improved IBIS, pixel shift, fast silent shutter. To have all that for the same introductory price of A7 RII is agressive indeed in a down market.
Which brings me to the numbers released by Sony during the livestream. Theirs are up some 50% + in a down market, both for lenses and camera bodies. This indicates that their strategy is working very well indeed!

Do you guys think that, even though the sensor is the same, it does have a couple new things to it. Will near next "things" give better performance for range finder lenses?

It’s very possible it might with new circuitry and better processing engine. Not sure it would help RF lenses per say but my guess it will help using the TAP with the New focusing abilities. Bottom line I can’t imagine it being worse
