PS once again also, thank you for this site!p
Thank you!
For this one, a small reflector could've been very helpful. I was just hanging out with my family watching the sunset and had my A7RIII + 40/1.2 with me.
Having said that, this image shows the advantage of shooting with a Sony sensor. It was ETTRed almost +2 stops using Highlight metering mode. In post, I recovered the shadows quite a bit and still ended up with a somewhat clean file.
"Straight out of camera" means sharpened, contrast boosted, saturation raised and noise reduced all by some fancy algorithm in the camera. Every camera (including different models by the same maker) has slightly different formulas, and of course there are tons of alternative choices in the camera menu (there's nothing especially natural about the ones called "standard" or "neutral" - these are just formulas that the maker thinks will have wide appeal.)
So there is no real default or way of seeing what's really in the file: it has to be demosiased at least in order to see an image, and that process usually involves all of the above.
Slightly more of an even playing field is the default output from a RAW convertor, like say using Adobe Standard on default mode. That at least makes things a bit comparable from brand to brand. But still, of course, there's no sense in which you are seeing the image unprocessed. At default, with sharpening etc all set to off, it's still sharpening, noise reducing and applying a curve.

There are two versions - Sony E mount and Leica M mount. The Sony version is £750, not sure of the Leica price. Not sure of the dollar price either
Finally got my hands on a copy of this lens last night. I know it's been said a thousand times, but the fit and finish is really remarkable - the tactile feedback of the focus and aperture rings, size and weight, balance on an A9 body, etc. are all marvelous. Can't wait to get out and shoot!

I've been on the waiting list at a few spots but one popped up on Amazon last Thursday. The listing indicated that only one was available. It was sold by Photo Village but fulfilled by Amazon. Pulled the trigger right away. I have had Amazon cancel a couple of orders on me previously for this lens so I was skeptical, but it showed up on my doorstep last night. Appears to be 100% brand new - no clue where they found it given the backorder, but I'm not complaining.
