Added a few shots with the VM version on the A7rII from a recent pony club day. First time I had the lens out, but still came home with some keepers (I think, anyway). Cropped and slightly edited, but nothing drastic. Also, haven't done much photography at pony club type events, so it was mostly mucking about trying to find the right angles and camera settings.
These are fantastic. I'm not ruling out changing the FE for the M mount at some point - for the size benefit, or for using on 35mm - and it's good to know that this kind of quality can still be attained with the M on Sony. I can't remember if you said, but is this with a Kolari mod, or just sensor as-is?
Non-modded, standard sensor, but keep in mind that these are cropped. Some a little, some a lot. I wasn't particularly taking these as corner tests, was more interested in the subjects, and was shooting at low apertures.
I'm going to be buying the Nokton in the next few days, but somehow I slightly prefer the Summilux in these two shots. It's very close, but the price differential is not. Rob
A photo I took back in November 2017 in Tokyo. Wide open at f1.2, this lens render such 3D pop that it almost look like the subjects were photoshopped onto the background. Love it!
I spent the day shooting with this lens. Given this also
Meant shooting with A7 series again for first time in a while, I struggled with settings and whatnot. Overall, I really like the rendering of the lens. And there were some shots with tricky angled light where I expected problems and didn’t get it. My one complaint is the length of the focu throw. Coming from shooting a Loxia, it feels like an eternity to move from near to far. These are random photos from a project I’m doing about a neighborhood here in Chicago that’s rapidly changing.
By the position of the shadows it seems that these were taken a bit apart, but do you think the T stops are the same between the two lenses? It almost seems like at 1.4 the summilux is letting more light in.

Side note: would it be preferable to start a lens-specific image thread for this lens? Not sure the protocol, but don't want to clutter up an info-centric thread with random snaps, so if anyone wants to start one....
It’s been awhile since I looked at gear but hot damn I love the way this thing renders.
Since it’s next on my list, I have a question. Are you guys shooting native E or adapted M? I’m kinda leaning towards the M version with so I can use a close focus adapter, but if I lose IQ I’ll go native.
did you shoot raw only? the jpgs through sony app are very small then.

Looks like it. When I look in computer at raw image, no. But brought these through Sony play app and iPhone. Huh. Need to look into this.

You will lose a little IQ
Also, the lens already focuses closer in the E version than the M. And it focuses close enough that performance at MFD is noticeably worse. If you create more extension with a close focus adapter or tubes performance won’t be good. If you really need to get closer than the E MFD a strong achromatic diopter would work a bit better.
