I have a love / hate relationship with this thread
The more images and posts I see, the more I love the idea of this lens. I start plotting which lenses to sell to buy it. The more I hate my affliction of GAS.
I've read all 63 pages. interesting how it started out with concerns and evolved into a love fest.

Neat little sunstar (starstar?) on the coma test. Given a longer exposure, will this thing produce noticeable sunstars (when not zoomed in) on bright stars at F2.8? That would be pretty cool and a compelling reasong to use it for astro.

My copy had stars starting from 1.4. All these were handheld.
Sorry for the long picture post. I figured since I was one of the early adopters of the lens and haven't really reported back much, I was due.
Just a few key findings from me, to keep it short, ish:
– I was expecting a lens for special occations/uses. I found it to be a lens I use for everything, all the time. This includes event shooting (paid work).
–I really, really get along with the 40mm FOV. For me it quite easily replaces a 35 and 50 combo, as I have seen others mention in this thread.
–It's now a lens that very much ties me to the E mount and the A7/A9 system, which I am otherwise a bit... unenthused about using. Now, in order for me to switch to something else FF mirrorless (I'm keeping an eye on what Nikon might come up with, for example), this lens, or something very similar, must first exist in that mount.
–My other camera system haven't been picked up once since getting the Nokton.
I few walkabouts from where I live. Left a few more in the Flickr group for the lens.
Edit: hmm, pic posting format changed? NM, then. It's all on Flickr.

Of the few misgivings I had about buying this lens was lack of experience with the 40mm FOV, apart from the Hexanon 40/1.8 and Fuji XF27. The Hexanon is nice, but the Nokton is in another league entirely. The Fuji I ended up selling a month after I got it (and I *never* sell lenses) because the rendering never grabbed me the same way their XF35 and XF18 did.
So, while I was certain I'd love the character, IQ and tactile shooting experience of the Nokton, I wasn't sure how I'd feel about 40mm. Turns out that I love it. Was a bit awkward at first, but after a couple weeks without taking it off my camera even once, I'm starting to be able to pre-visualize compositions and judge appropriate angles and distances with it.
Whatever I could do with 50mm,I can do with this lens. Distortion limits how close I can get for portraits, but it's sharp enough to be able to handle semi-aggressive crops of head/shoulders shots, even on my humble a7.
This has replaced 35 and 50 for me, but I still miss 28. No worries, because I have an Ultron 28/2 on the way.
I believe Mr Gandy owes Mr Miranda a few beers because of this thread.
Late to the 40/1.2 CV E mount close-up filter party - what do you all think is the best front add-on lens focal length to be able to focus to 2 meters with the lens set at infinity? 1,500mm? 2,000mm?
There are 60mm diameter f=2000mm "Carl Zeiss T* Proxar f=2m" out there that can be had for ~$50 that would need to be transplanted to another filter holder.
I use this lens in the 0.5 to 2m range enough that I'd love a significant bump in sharpness with a simple add-on lens that I'd be willing to carry.
Lately I've become the master of removing lens elements from their frames and re-using the frame (or the lenses) for different purposes.
Seems something like a +0.5 diopter (f=2,000mm) should get me to 2m focus?
I like this lens for everything except it's close-up performance and some add-on lens gymnastics are fine with me.

The best is the Leica ELpro-4 (0.75 diopter). It will let you focus up to 1.5m (lens at infinity). It's an achromat and IQ will be retained. It does add some bulk though: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1520348/3#14341820
Did anyone try a +0.5 (f=2,000mm) macro lens to see how this worked? The Proxars come in 1.3m (+0.75) and 2m (0.5) variants and the 60mm version comes with T* coatings. I assume these are single elements, but they are Zeiss and I suspect the 2m version doesn't need to be a doublet since it's so weak (like the PCX lenses for the 35/1.7CV).

The are single element. I’ve tried single element +1 diopters and got color errors. And I don’t think there’s any zeiss magic that wil, fix that, it’s just optics...
You might be right that 0.5 diopter is weak enough to have no ill effect in a single element version, though I wouldn’t count on it. But it might also be too weak to do much good. Remember our goal here is not subtle effects on field curvature. It’s to focus on something Closer than 1.5m while the lens is set to more or less infinity which is its optimal range. A 0.5 diopter lens will have the main lens at infinity when the supystem if focussed at 2m, and at that point the lens by itself is pretty good.
So I concur with @Fred Miranda that the Elpro 4 is the way to go. It’s about the best strength (a slightly stronger one may be slightly better actually at mfd, but that’s not where I care most), and it’s decent quality (fortunately because it’s the only achromat I know of that strength)
Well, the multi-coated single element 5000mm (0.20 diopter) PCX that was successfully applied to the 35/1.7 CV for field curvature issues didn't seem to cause any secondary color issues. So that's my thinking - if infinity could be at 2-3 meters it would be pretty weak. Max working distance for a lens focused at infinity is 1/D according to Wikipedia, so a 3 meter working distance would be a diopter of 0.333.
A 2 meter working distance would be a diopter of 0.5. Thus the 0.75 Leica would be 1.33 meters, which is maybe a bit close for me in some cases.
I'll probably get the Leica, but will also try out the 60mm diameter f=2m (0.5 diopter) Hassy Proxar (Zeiss T* coatings) if I can find a cheap one in good shape that I can mount in an adapter. There are B57 Proxars, but they appear to be older and likely single coated.

I was going to guess Salt Lake or Denver. Love seeing the mountains with snow on them - too dreary around here to see anything lately, let alone take a nice pic of them.

The colors/pop are amazing. How much post processing was done on this image (other than the stitch)? In other words, how much of this is lens and how much is post?
