What I'm seeing is more waviness in the VM adapted to Sony, mostly the corners curving away.
Is it noticeable in day-to-day use? I should look back through the thread and see if there are good comparisons. Mostly curious about bokeh in the corners and whether it significantly changes the OOF look.
The new TAP adapter is rekindling interest in the VM version for me. I'd miss the exif, but if it means I can have reasonable AF when needed, I could give it up. As long as IQ isn't impacted too much.

yes, if you work over 2.8 you can easily see that and, at 1.2, there is a huge difference in the quality of boheh.
border of a 1.2 A7 vs M9
Of course, using my Techart, I've been able to shot in the years something otherwise impossible using a manual lens...

Great examples, thank you. Yes, the mismatch in glass/mount has suboptimal results. What about shooting at infinity, stopped down to something like f8? Will the VM version be properly sharp on e-mount?
I suppose this is something I'll have to try out myself. I am too enamored by the CV40 to fully switch over to my 35GM, no matter how technically proficient and fast to focus that lens is.
I have a question: I noticed a strange behaviour of my CV 40mm 1.2 and 35mm 1.4.
Both lens when focus is set to infinity show out of focus, but when I turn focus ring just about 1mm back, it in perfect focus.
What is the focus distance when its set to infinity?
I thought that if I set it to infinity, everything from like 10 meters away from me should be in focus.
I noticed it on a tree that was about good 30 meters away from me.
Since I noticed it, its so annoying, that I started to hate it to be honest...
Phinix, it is to accommodate thermal expansion/contraction as temp varies. I’ve had one or two manual focus lenses where I couldn’t quite reach infinity focus at wider apertures and had to stop down for DoF to compensate. Many of my other manual focus lenses behaved as yours did, so testing revealed how much to back off from infinity or how much to stop down.
Phinix, I have that same experience with all my manual lenses (several Voigtlaender, Zeiss C.G., Minolta, Canon) and it has never bothered me. As darrellc it could be for thermal expansion reasons.

The m-mount is great, I'm using it far more than the e mount. The quality is absolutely superb, I've hardly ever woried about the corners with the sort of pictures i take, It's way more important to get the subject in focus. If you do want sharp corners you can stop the lens down to f8.
Off centre focusing is a doddle with single shot AF, pre focus in the centre then move the subject to the side, easy!
Good luck in your decision making, buying is half the fun, or though you probably know that😀
I'm looking to buy VM 40mm 1.2 and sell my E mount version, just to get new TAP adapter for auto focusing.
Your experience and comments are on a positive side - are you still happy with VM 40 1.2 on Sony body?
For me, autofocus and smaller lens size is all I like in that combo.
You may have just sparked a rehashing of the debate we had over this a couple hundred pages earlier. Lol
Personally, I loved the VM version with TAP. But it is not without several issues that may or may not be deal breakers for you.
Scroll back a couple hundred pages to see some of the previous debate and plenty of photos (on my part) if you want more insight with the particular setup.

I'm trying to buy used 40mm 1.2 VM and cannot find one. Are these so good that once you purchase it, you won't let go? 😁
Selling my E version, little interest too...
