I'm looking to buy one of these but have a conundrum. I'd be using it on my Sony A7, but there's a chance I'll be switching to a Z5/Z6 at some point in the future. In that case, is it better to buy the M-mount version or the E-mount version? What do I give up by getting the M-mount version?

The M mount lenses are optimized for the thinner sensor stack of the Leica M series cameras. This usually shows up as poor performance (smearing) in the corners of the frame. Both the Sony and Nikon sensors have the thicker sensor filter stacks. The degree of this seems to be worst in wide angle lenses. In general I try not to use M mount lenses on my E-mount bodies.
However, E-Mount lenses adapt very well on the Nikon Z mount. I have not tested this lens that way, but I am thinking you will get maximum performance in you situation with the E-Mount version of this lens.

I have used a number of E mount manual focus lenses on my Nikon Z7, and they have all adapted well with very similar performance even in the corners on the Sony E mount and the Nikon Z mount. I think you can buy the E-mount version which will work best on Sony and it will still be the version that will work best if you switch to a Z5 or Z6. So, I agree with 1bwanna1, the E mount is the version that makes most sense in your situation.
First post on FredandMiranda so hope it appears on the Voigtlander thread!
Anybody had their 40mm NOKTON seize up? The focus ring just suddenly went twice as stiff and unusable compared to the wonderful buttery smooth usual action. I bought mine second hand but thankfully with a 6 month warranty. It's just been sent back to CV but I was surprised it happened. Lens was in very good condition and was on my camera almost constantly for about 4 months. I must say I love it and have been learning to manual focus and practising hard.
Also, I'm wondering whether to replace or add to it with the same focal length. I shoot a lot of family and musicians so manual focus can be challenging but rewarding too. Does anyone supplement this focal length with an auto focus one too? I'm think only the 35GM will compare and supplement this lens. possible the 40G but it's only f2.5....
Any advice much appreciated. I shoot on 24-105 f4 and Zeiss 55 but I don't really get on with 50mm.
