Morning of the day after Christmas.
Snow outside and hot chocolate inside.
Are her near eye eyelashes (my focus point) 100% sharp - no due to the loss of performance up close with this lens, but it's more than sharp enough to make the photo at this viewing size.
And besides, SHE likes the photo despite any technical imperfections.
Still love this lens even though am thinking about getting the 50/1.2GM (but only for the AF capabilities).
To add to DavidBM, the final AF equivalent might be the Sigma 45 f2.8. Very smooth rendering like the CV and RX1 series, but apparently iffy AF-C.
I’ve had my CV for 3 years now. I’d be most interested in a Batis 40 if I wanted an AF alternative because of Zeiss microcontrast and weather sealing. Although, MF on Batis series makes me want to pull my non existent hair out…

Whats the closest AF equivalent of this lens?
Hmm, closest AF alternative? I’ve been looking for a long time…
Closest image-wise is probably the Sigma 35/1.2. It’ll have similar subject-background separation and well-regarded rendering. But if you’re considering handling or size also then I think the best alternative is the Sony 35GM. It’s f1.4, reasonable size, fast AF, and sharp.
I have the Sigma 45i, but it isn’t fast enough to really compete in the same way for me, even if the bokeh is very nice. The Batis 40 is nice also, but at f2, still lacking a bit for speed and at the same size I’d go with the 35GM.
Personally, I use the good old 55/1.8 as an alternative as well, but it’s not all that “close” to the CV40.
There’s always the option of buying the VM mount and using the TAP adapter.

Spending Christmas and New Year at this camp spot.
The aspect ratio you have chosen for this whole series going back a while is perfect for the subject.
As always, I particularly enjoy the color rendition you use.

Thank you very much for your generous comments I really appreciate that.

I am also delighted with color rendition, espacially transition between greens and sky looks amazing. Is it thanks to some lens filters or pp?
Thank you Kuchciu, it was neither, the colour has not been enhanced at all, it is probably a combination of afternoon light and a lot of rain ( we are in a back to back cycle of La Nina ) which has caused a lot of new summer growth.

It was a raw file processed in ACR.
Glad you liked it.
Cheers Ray

Do you think there is a case for owning this even if you have the 50? This is absolutely the best image thread !
I own the CV, 35GM, and 50 GM. I enjoy each for its own reasons. The two GMs are technical powerhouses, but I have a thing for the CV 40 1.2. It has a special personality in both the shooting experience, and the resulting images.
