Yeah... I just had to join this 40mm club once more. I've just ordered the SE version, which will be my third version of this same lens. Had an affair with the lovely CV 50mm f/1.2 (along with a 35mm Samyang) but it didn't work out so well since I just missed the 40mm FL too much. I find 50mm too tight and 35 too wide to be my universal one lens solution. There's just something magical about this focal length, combined with the ultrafast aperture.

Welcome back. You can try getting rid of it, but most end up buying it again!
My friend asked me about my kit and made this. I thought the thread would appreciate it. Between the rising popularity of the E mount and Voigtlander's adoption and maturity on the mount, I'd say the 40 f1.2 is on its way to becoming a classic lens.

f/2.8 Fred. She doesn't stay still for long enough for f/1.2!!
Really illustrates how the transition zone is an interaction between the lens and subject matter.
Transition is pretty faultless here but compare Shapencolor's last image above (stone table and chairs) where the leaves on the right are slightly double image.
Just got my new 40mm SE. I love how tiny it is, compared to the original version (which I also loved), even if I wish they had kept the surface finish of the focus ring. But that doesn't affect shooting with it. And I NEVER used the declick-option. I'm really loving the Nokton "analog" rendering in this modern digital ultra-sharp lens era, even with "warts and all". It's still sharp enough for anything I might ever need it. Even for landscapes stopped down. This lens really is my "desert island lens". Don't think there will be a lens that could replace it.
Not sure if I will buy any AF lens in the 35 to 50mm range. I'm going to see if I can live with just this Nokton (and 24mm and 65mm Sigmas will be the closest ones when I get them).
I dunno. I'm seriously considering swapping it for the 50/2 APO. If I were convinced the IQ of the 50 would match my 180 APO I'd do it today. From the 50 APO thread I'm not convinced.
Colors, edge definition, contrast, tone progression. The images I've been browsing in the 50 APO thread strike me as somewhat muddy compared to those from the 65 APO thread. The 65 looks more like my 180.
Plus the 40 is really an extraordinary lens. Fast, bright, and sharper than we should expect.
I'd be interested to hear what anyone who owns both the 50/2 and the 40 thinks.
