I revisited some of my travel photo shot with this lens on Sony a9. I had some problem with my vision back then and didn't quite interpreted the result as good as I could now (post operation), kinda regretted to have sold it...It's a freakin amazing lens despite the funky transition zone and all! 40mm is still a very special focal length with so much possibilities, with just the right amount of FOV to cover landscape, but with the right amount of tightness for comfortable composition. Fortunately I do have a very similar setup now with much upgraded rendering but I wouldn't hesitate to buy this lens again if I'm still shooting on Sony. Nevertheless, please enjoy!

What did you replace it with?
50mm Summilux on GFX, effectively 40mm f1.1 so it's close enough. It has some unsightly flaws being adapted on GFX, but so do the CV40mm which also had some annoying flaws even if it's native on Sony body. I like the rendering and color signature of the lux much better, so I'm content.
I've read the CV50 works pretty well on the GFX too, I've dreamed of a walk-around setup like that But I understand going for Summilux too...
Another couple of shots from the CV40. We've been venturing to local trails I've never tried before to get out of the house these days. I've been having fun taking my Hasselblad film camera, but my rolls are sitting here at home undeveloped still! Thought I'd bring the CV40 too

The CV50 1.2 was exactly the lens on my radar, too. I could've ended up with Sigma 50 ART too but I want something light and small. I admire the CV rendering where you can turn a scene into an artistic painting. But I'm currently in a stage of searching something with "life-like" rendering, and I found it. Many people don't buy into the Leica hype mainly due to the expensive bodies but the lenses are the real deal, IMHO.
Drove by one of the Senior assisted living facilities here in La Jolla this afternoon. I kind of liked the way this scene captured some of the flavor of how my town is dealing with the Covid-19 virus, and protecting our most vulnerable.
Plus, any excuse to shoot the VC 40 f1.2. Had to take the image from my car because the beach just behind me is closed for now. No walking allowed.

I do so much enjoy the understated elegance of your photos. While so many of us try to pump up the saturation and dynamic range, you tell it like it is.
Just finished comparing the 35 III Nokton and 40 Nokton side by side with the wife as my test subject, which reminded me I never posted this one of her from a while back with the 40:
