Maybe we will get a announcement this week. I love the A9 just wish it had 42mpx or more. That is really all I want otherwise it’s a perfect shooting cam. I know this lens would hold up well for 42or more.

Isn't it easier and more precise to just move your focus point off center than walking several meters left/right/up/down (if possible at all) when subject distance demands it? I don't get it.
this is why it's easier to just not use focus points or magnification and focus wherever the subject is framed without futzing about.
Really, you seem pretty stubborn. It's fine if you don't agree with the definition but your arguments aren't extremely credible either. It's one thing to say something is your opinion but it becomes problematic when you say it's factual.
i don't see where that definition disagrees with what Makten said? it is the quality of the blur that makes bokeh good, not the amount. you can have jagged and nisen bokeh with a lot of blur and you can have smooth bokeh with no harsh contrast transitions without a lot of blur. most older lenses have harsher bokeh at larger apertures and smoother bokeh at smaller apertures despite having less blur at smaller apertures. i've noticed that a lot of the modern lenses with good bokeh wide open seem to actually work the other way as Makten describes where bokeh does not get any smoother (or even less smooth) when stopping down. i haven't paid enough attention to the samples to have an opinion about whether this lens works that way.
I seldom focus closer than 1.5 meters or so, but I see what some of you mean. It's obviously not nearly as sharp close up as further away. However, I freakin' LOVE the rendering! Lots of spherical aberration, but still high contrast.

The pop is just amazing. Wish it had autofocus instead of waiting for the m mount with tap adapter and seeing how well that one does
I don't know this for sure, but I'm guessing that not having AF is one of the things that keeps it compact.
Not just because of no motor etc; but because the current design could not be made to have high performing AF: the elements are all too large and there is not focussing group. It'd beed to unit focus, and it'd be worse than the hated 1.8/50 focus.
To make it a decent AF speed would mean redesigning to be internal focus, with focus performed by a very light group. Rather like the 1.4/35. And would it be much smaller than the 1.4/35 then? Or any?
Any comments on Big Bronco test because I’m actually shocked no one said anything about F4 corners or 5.6 because I can name several lenses that can’t get there.
I shot about 30 portraits today with the Batis 135. Simply a laser. I have to knock it down so much in post. Lol

Love to see images like Guy's, but with 42.5MP . . . this may be a lens to rent first, if in fact, anyone of the lens rental houses will have it in stock anytime soon.
The detail on center wide open certainly is impressive at least on the A9.
24 to 42MP is a stretch for any lens. It separates the best from the rest. The FE 28/2 is great at 24MP, but shows it weaknesses at 42MP (I am on my third copy). I love the 28/2 for its speed and size, but it isn't great on 42MP, If I were shooting 24MP I probably wouldn't look any further.
My theory is different a really good lens will work on just about any size sensor but a poor lens will not work well on a high res sensor. The FE 28 is not a great lens , it needs F8 to get the corners , it has terrible distortion so yes it won’t be great on a 42 sensor. I’ve gone through 4 of them, it sucks. I’m picky though and some folks like it. MF is horrible on it.
I’m totally confident my whole set of glass would even work on a 60 mpx sensor. I shot less quality lenses on 100 mpx sensors

Took my girls to Cheer class tonight and while waiting, took a self-portrait.
An excellent idea and a very well executed composition, but I have to say those onion rings on the blur disk stand out even on a web sized version and even the LoCA on the lights are a bit disappointing. Despite these concerns about the lens, I still very much like the shot though.
Well thanks to this post I am giving this lens a try, comes tomorrow Hopefully my luck continues as I only had to buy one copy of the FE 28mm. Excellent lens even on a 42Mp sensor

A lower MP sensor like 20-24MP won't be able to discern as much high frequency detail from our best lenses and therefore resolution is rendered more evenly from center to edges. I'm not a fan of the FE 28 for its immense astigmatism and distortion but it's a very sharp lens at center.

Thanks Steve. The flaws you mentioned are not secrets and therefore this lens is not for everyone.

I’m not so sure about this I tested 5 backs 18,22,33,60,80 on the same tech cam and got high fregency moire in every one. I shot the A9 and A7rII with the same lenses and no difference except for resolution size. I also tested almost all my lenses on both bodies. But again if you have great lenses it should not matter except for resolution the detail is still there, you may not see it as your 100 percent detail is different sizing. Anyway it does not matter to me as I have outstanding copies regardless of body.
