I love sailboats and the Indian Ocean.

The Indian Ocean is the best for surfing and diving.

Sailboats are the best way to see it.

Lots of time doing both in my younger years.

While ones heart still beats, it is still time to do these things... ;-)

Yesterday we were composing a photobook from our vacation in Mauritius with my better half and we came to the agreement that this was the most beautiful place we`ve visited since NZ (but that was before jobs, marriage and 3 kids, so maybe these things could play a role in the scoring :-))

Cheers, A.

nehemiahphoto, imagesfromobjects, Steve Spencer

Thanks very much to you all for so kindly indulging me.

imagesfromobjects:
yes, I only got that you were messing with me after I had posted my response. Trying to read all of this thread can rob a person of any sense of humour.

In the end I have decided to get the e version. Unfortunately the photos in this thread have led me to the conclusion that I need an A7RM2 to go with it. I am now selling everything I own....

Thanks again, all.

I think you made a wise choise, A7RII works great with this nokton, like many of us on this thread will say, it`s practically glued to the camera...

Sorry I didn`t budge in earlier (not such an expert as others here) as I don`t own many lenses, but I can tell you one thing, I ride my bike (road, gravel, uphill, downhill and everything inbetween) a lot with my camera hanging on my back on a Mettle speedstrap (I wish they had the Slowstrap when I bought the Speedstrap, that one would probably work better for me) and I have zero issues with A7RII E mount, the nokton is still firmly mounted on the camera and the contacts are working flawlesly...

Enjoy your new kit... and post some photos... :-)

Cheers, A.

Traveling to such places with your Wife and children, is a blessing of the highest order.

It guarantees a perfect score...

Cheers, A.

p.s.: I was always wondering - how come M mount Voigtlanders are cheaper than their E mount brothers? I`d reckon it`d be the other way around, since Leica camp is way more expensive, the M mount more versatile - can be used on E mount, m4/3 and Fuji via adapters as well, so a must for people with different mount cameras...

This is a wonderful picture! But your little girl without a floatation device makes me terribly uneasy.

No worries needed, all my girls are swimming at the local swim club (only recreational, not competition) since the age of 5, so my youngest the one in the pic is 8yr old and swims without "accesories" for 2 years now... on top of this, all around Mauritius there is a lagoon so there is nowhere really deep water, no high waves, no sharks so we were pretty relaxed... ;-)

Glad you liked it... :-)

Cheers, A.

I know sunsets and landscapes are not the usual use for the special features of this lens. However, I have been leaving it on the camera in an effort to force myself to learn to manual focus. So, when my Wife and I were out to eat, I saw this sunset developing and had to use it.

I think it did a great job on the image IQ wise. It also forced me not to default to my usual wide angle lens for this location and find a different sort of composition.

It was a useful exercise, and learning opportunity.

Enjoy!

Steve

Has anyone tried the VM 40/1.2 or the FE version on an EOS R/RP body? (Is it possible to adapt sony FE mount on a canon R/RP? I have googled a possible adapter, but have not seen any...).

And on the Nikon Z, has anyone compared the VM to the FE version?

I have a leica M9, and am tempted by this 40/1.2, but probably will use it mainly on a mirrorless Canon or Nikon - thinking of buying the R or the Z...

Decide on lens first, then body perhaps. So, any input would be appreciated

I just got the FE version, took it for a walk with my dog, and deliberately tried to get something "quirky", something that would showcase what is unique about this lens (f/1.2):

I really wish people would show the data when posting pictures. It would be a valuable learning tool for many of us.

Thanks,

Steve

I’ve been moving away from Sony shooting recently, but if I boiled down to a single lens it would be the CV 40 f/1.2 E. I don’t believe I’ve ever felt this strongly about a lens. In fact, I like it so much I ordered the VM version two days ago for adapting to Fuji and Leica (there seems to be a few out there enjoying especially with the Fuji crop). I’ll decide if both or only one stays, but unfortunately it’s backordered at my preferred vendor at the moment.
