Been a few months, still my favorite lens.(Which is unusual for me) Mine can be a little quirky on my old a7r. Sometimes it won't let me zoom to focus. There's a little bit of play between the lens and body....Just a little, maybe just enough to disengage. Works perfect on the a9, no play at all. But....I mostly bought it for my a7r.

I love that the images form the 40/1.2 & 21/3.5 don't look out of place as a set of images. If I use the FE85 alongside the 40mm, I find it takes some work to get them to look consistent.
Between weather and work, I have not been able to get out and shoot my new CV 40mm 1.2. But just sniping around the house has been a fun learning experience.
Hi all, I’ve been reading this thread for months and have been seriously impressed by some of the images on display. The way this lens renders is just beautiful.
I managed to have a go with the lens in person at the Photography Show at the NEC in March, and since then have been on the lookout for a used copy at a reasonable price.
I finally found one yesterday and had my first go with it today in the garden (weather’s too bad to go far, unfortunately). Really looking forward to having a proper play with it soon, and perhaps posting a few images of my own now I’ve joined the club

Back here we got shitty weather as well, floods and all, so I too am waiting to get out coss I just got a set of Nisi filters and am eager to try some looong exposures... :-)

The symptom reappeared shortly afterwards. I have suspected the loose mount fit to be the culprit, especially now after Helena mentioned that hers exhibits the problem when simply moving the camera.
I sent mine back to Jack at Robert White, who kindly sent it to Cosina straight away. Hopefully the wait will not be too long. I will post an update once I get it back.
I have been playing around trying to learn the quirks of this lens.
I have found that at f1.2 the infinity stop on the dial is pretty soft. It is much sharper when I back off infinity just a tiny bit, even for objects that are at the infinity range.
I have also found that when I stop down just a bit, even f2.0, infinity is nice and sharp at the infinity stop on the dial.
Has anyone noticed this behaviour in the lens, or is it just my copy.
On my CV 15mm the infinity stop on the dial is reliably sharp at all apertures. In fact, I mostly just set this lens to infinity and shoot. But this probably works mostly because it is so wide of a FL.

Yeah. Mine is the same just a touch back from the hard stop. Not an issue.
I picked up an e-mount version, but I like it less than the m-mount version (aperture ring, overall size, focus throw and resistance), so I'll think I'll get an m-mount copy again.

Hahaha, I just saw your ad! I did the swap from E to M, and sometimes I have thought about switching back for a couple reasons. I don't think the M's T-Stop or DOF capability is as good as the E version, even on a helicoid adapter. It's just a suspicion, as I don't have both to do a side-by-side, but by now I have a lot of experience with both versions and feel pretty confident about this. Additionally, the bokeh is different when using the M on a Sony, for possibly obvious reasons, but it's not quite as smooth and shows traces of FC with "uneven" bokeh quantity in spots. I LOOOVE the size of the M, though. And I use it quite often on film now, so I don't think I'll go back. I could see owning both someday, though.
