I really need to stop clicking into this thread. It's not healthy for my wallet.
This may be off topic but if is getting the Tech Art Pro with this lens worth getting if I struggle with manual autofocus. The photos produced from this lens is absolutely amazing and have me so close to pulling the trigger. I've been an AF photog all this time but would like to challenge myself to manual focus. Kinda worried keeping up with my rugrats with this lens.

I like this one quite a lot.
Nice mood and really good use of the focal length, not being a real wide angle lens!
Thank you nikonos! Classic landscapes with a 40mm are indeed tricky. You definitely need to step back quite a while and use a very distant background to make it pop.
I am really impressed with the nature of this lens: dreamy rendering and 3d pop wide open, amazing sharpness and microcontrast from 2.8 up.
I'm still new to the lens (e mount on A7iii), but really liking what I'm seeing. Shooting mostly f/1.7 based on Phillip Reeve's tests. From a trip to Santa Cruz this weekend.

I'm loving all the kid shots— hopefully we can shatter the myth that you *need* AF to shoot kids once and for all.
Especially love the ocean shot.

Still lurking this thread. I'm actually going back and reading every single page of this thread and looking over the photos. The colors that I'm seeing produced by this lens are absolutely amazing. Is most of these photos straight out of camera or are some of them processed. I'm on page 24 and some of the early conversations of this "review" are pretty hilarious.
Haha thanks. It is really hard not to love this lens. It's dreamy for portraits wide open, sharp and contrasty stopped down, but there is also this in between netherworld where you can get sunstars AND soft bokeh in the same exposure.
It also happens to be my wife's favorite lens to shoot with on my camera and to be photographed with. It's just endless fun and has endless swag on tap. Money well spent! I also have the 15, but I am trying not to pay attention to the 21mm thread.

I think..... I think, I could live with just this lens at times!
My thoughts exactly. In my last trip to Tallinn (posted pics a few pages a ago) I didn't have any other lenses with me. And I loved it. I used to be a 50mm shooter and I still love that focal length. Earlier I was really tempted by the upcoming Sony-mount version of the Nokton 50mm f/1.2, but now the more I've shot with the 40mm the more I've fallen in love with it. There is truly some magical dreamlike quality in many of the pictures it produces. It is my "unicorn pixie dust lens" that I think I will never replace. And the focal length is really growing on me as I can get more in the picture, but when needed, I can get up close and personal.
Now I am finally going to get the 21mm to complement it. Just wish Voigtländer had some more compact portrait lens option than just the monstrous (but wonderful) 110mm. Might have to get the 75mm f/2.5 color-heliar again that I still had during last year, and regret selling it... Although I won't sell my FE 85mm f/1.8 that is my longer lens at the moment. It's just too good.

I've shot with the CV40/1.4 Classic in M mount for about 3 years previously I can't do 50mm anymore!!
My kit sits in the order of CV40/1.2E > CV21 > FE85
Took me a couple of days to go over all 176 pages of this thread that started back in October 2017! Well I finally joined the club and ordered my copy from Photo Village. Should get here on Thursday. Got a hike up my local mountains on Friday and would be a great time to test the lens. I need to do a decentering test this weekend and hoping I can get some of your input. This thread has been super helpful from the methods and tips to manually focus, some great preset recommendations, some AMAZING PHOTOS, bag recommendations, etc. Can't wait to get my lens.
