I'd like to give props to Jack Lockyer at Robert White for quickly sending me a replacement lens. This one is a massive improvement over the first one.

Yeah, I'm still getting used to the manual focus. I wear glasses for distance, but my eyesight is not that bad ( I can squint to make out street signs in the distance) but never feel confident that I have it in focus. I don't even know if it would be my far vision anyway since I'm looking at the EVF.
This is the same case for me. I've never had the opportunity to calibrate the EVF relative to what I KNOW was in focus so I feel like using a MF lens with slightly bad vision (-0.75) makes it impossible for me to make tack sharp shots. Usually I resort to magnify, but many situations don't allow you to have this much time.

Interesting. Have you tried focus peaking while in manual? Perhaps the back LCD would be easier - or at least help you quickly calibrate the viewfinder's diopter?

Hello everybody. I only posted a few times on this site, but already read for a long time. Hopefully someone can advise me.
I love this focal length more than any other. Currently i own the Batis 40 f2 (with my Sony a7III) which i like, but i wish it would be a 1.4.
40mm is the prefect focal length for me to make portraits with some context and without too much distortion. Without trying to find right words: i find the 40mm look and compression very pleasant.
But for this use i prefer f1.4 over f2.0. Another option is the Sigma, but this lens out of proportion big, heavy (and ugly if that counts).
Actually i bought the Nokton 40mm 1.2 FE version before i returned it and got the Batis, but could not really get used to the manual focus, or was too scared to use it for my work.
Only recently i heard about the Techart pro. So maybe my wished lens (a good 40mm, autofocus, 1.4 or faster and not too big..) is possible after all?
Can somebody please tell me the cons and pros (over the FE version) for using this combination of the M version with Techart pro on a a7III?
-Do the FE and M differ significant in IQ?
-Does AF work well with the Techart? I like how the Sony secretly still uses eye-AF in single AF with face detection. I'm not demanding real fast AF, but off course accurate in some way with f1.2
-are there downsides? I guess focus shift (or other problems i don't think of?) does not occur with face detection through the frame?
-what do i loose compared to the Sony FE version because with it's electronics?:
I know the automatic focus magnifier doesn't work, but i don't need it in most cases because of the AF, and i have the C2 button programmed to do this when i want. I guess that still works, and i can still use the M just as easy as a manual focus lens as the FE version if i want?
I don't care much for the EXIF to use as statistics, or does it also effect my raw processing?
The camera needs to be told what focal length is on it for the IBIS to work correct? Is this something i have to do every time i mount the lens? Is there an easy way to do this (favorites?).
-does the Techart use a lot of (camera?) battery?
-i red about infinity focusing problems with the Techart because of the extra length it adds to the lens, but i think it only counts for lenses longer than 50mm?
-Something else i'm missing?
Thanks!
(sorry if i make mistakes in my English btw)

Just shoot with Silent shutter mode and you never have to worry about EFCS as long as your subject does not move fast.
This makes sense, but in practice it just changes what I need to remember. Pick your poison, I suppose...
EFCS: "Don't use EFCS above 1/500s"
vs.
Silent shutter: "Turn off silent shutter if things are moving quickly"
vs.
Normal shutter: "Change to EFCS if shutter speed is in shutter vibration range (1/30s - 1/200s)"
In theory, one should be able to get all settings optimally, but in practice not always (for me). The reason I don't use silent shutter by default is that there are big issues that result from using it at the wrong time--light banding and rolling shutter distortion. And these are problems that result in lost images (in my unfortunate experience). Forgetting to turn off EFCS is the least negative outcome IMO, just resulting in sub-optimal bokeh.
Too bad there's no "EFCS + Normal shutter mode" or "high-speed EFCS off toggle" that would adjust based on your shutter speed.

You are right and it's another thing to remember! For me it works because I'm mostly in silent shutter mode.
I uae a Lowepro LP37173 from BestBuy (30 bucks). There's just enough 'extra' room in there for a micro-fiber cloth and a PD strap.

Can anyone recommend a bag that will fit my a7riii and CV40 (with hood attached) and nothing else? I use a Thinktank Mirrorless Mover 5 for my RX1RII and it’s a snug fit. Looking for a similar thing for when I just want to take out the cv40 and no other lenses. Mirrorless Mover 10 maybe?

Thanks. I ended up just purchasing a Mirrorless mover 10 as I really like the 5. I forgot to factor in that I use a half case but it still works out ok

Mirrorless Mover 10 works great with my a7R2 and CV 40 with hood. It's snug, but not overly so.
