I have the Leica Summicron-C 40/2 also. Just from using both, I know that the 40/2 is very glowy wide open, even more so than the Nokton at f1.2. Stopping that lens down to f2.8 improves it a lot. The Nokton however appears very clean at f1.4.
For bokeh rendering, they are very different. The Leica 40/2 has a very busy "soap bubble" look to the bokeh (some would say it has "character"). The Nokton is extremely smooth. Here's an album with some of my 40/2 shots:
But, I've put my name on the waiting list for this CV40/1.2 in E mount.
I've been really balancing on the fence over it!! Fast 40mm is perfect for me & I think aside form the extra size & weight, the E f/1.2 is going to be a better performing lens.
Great job on these. The food pics being so good is surprising to me. The lens lacks a floating element and is not optimized for MFD shooting. Did you stop down for these or crop or use a close up lens?
For food I'm usually anwhere between 2.8 and 8 depending on what I'm going for and my available light. Even in dim settings I'm able to use f8 and pull up everything in post. I do crop a little in post, but I never have to stand up to take overhead shots.
