I loved this lens (didnt came off my A7iii after buying it) but it got stolen last week in Austin, TX...
This was one of my last shots which I luckily transfered to my phone straight away.
A shot from day 1 of my trip, taken at Lover's Point in Monterrey, CA
In retrospect I probably should have kicked up the ISO to increase the shutter speed and freeze the water movement better. This was my first sea/water shoot so please excuse my noobishness.

Love the colour tones, looks kinda Fuji Classic Chrome.

I love around 1-2 seconds for water/sea shots but that's obviously with a tripod in hand!
Keep posting though everyone. I'm waiting for this to be in stock here in the UK!

They have one in stock. Not overly keen on their reviews & reputation though.....
I've used them for a couple of new lenses and more used without problems.
Distance selling regulations mean you have a week to return it if it's not up to spec.
At least there's less sample lottery on the 40 by the look of things
I'm considering to get a close up filter for my E-mount 40/1.2 and I know there are a lot of comments in this thread, but I'm not able to draw a conclusion from it and I have no experience with such filters.
I have two wishes:
- Something to use for close ups of flowers, leafs and similar stuff (focusing <75 cm)
- Something for close ups of people (0,7 - 3 meters)
I assume this requires two separate filters, but I have no idea what to buy.

Marumi +3 Achromat

Leica Elpro 3

Could anyone please advise?
You can see several pictures with both on my flickr timeline (or here in the thread).
Here's my hot take on the 40 1.2 after using it to take photos of my 10-month-old:
MF is really not that bad with focus peaking and no magnification. I just wait for the peaking color (in my case, yellow) to wash over the eye and then I bracket off a half dozen shots. This gives me a bit of buffer in case of movement.
No real comment on colors since I was shooting inside and in poor light
Build quality is 10/10. Heavier than I expected. But still balanced on the camera.
Sharpness is there at 1.2, especially for portrait work where critical sharpness isn't necessary or even desired.

Long story short: The _only_ place sharpness is a problem with this lens is at MFD wide open. Stop down a bit, and it gets lovely sharp. IMHO, stopping down a bit is a lot easier than closeup lenses.
If you insist on shooting wide open very close, you need a multi-element (corrected) closeup lens to improve performance. Regular (single element) closeup lenses will make things worse. A one-diopter closeup lens brings infinity focus to one meter, a two-diopter one brings infinity focus to 0.5 meters. The actually focusing range is from that point down.
So a one-diopter would help for flowers, a 0.5-diopter for people.
But corrected (multi-element) closeup lenses in those diopters are rare. If you find any, they won't be the right size, and you'll need adapter rings. (The only 58mm size corrected closeup lens I recall seeing is a 3-diopter one (25cm and closer). I have one lying around here somewhere, but haven't tried it yet.)
If you've never tried closeup lenses, get a couple of cheap ones (single element, not corrected) in the right size (58mm) and experiment. You can stack them to get stronger effects (the diopter numbers just add). Great fun, but you'll probably be disappointed in the image quality. And in the difficulty of using the camera (since finding the plane of focus can be a bear).
I tried to search for it, but I can only find the Leica in 55 mm threads. Are you using step down or am I missing something?
Yes, exactly. The elpro 3 is 55mm and vintage. There are versions from leitz wetzlar and leica. And also from different countries. As far as I know the quality is the same. I have an old one from leitz wetzlar (I think produced in spain).
Send de note for those using a M lens and in need of a adapter. I just picked up a Kippon M to Fe straight adapter like 70 dollars and it’s really nice on my 50 1.2. Nice and tight but not too tight and no wobble at all. I got mine at Adorama. Just FYI

Guy, you prefer it to the Voigtlander close focus adapter? I think you had the Voigt at one point right?
