I went camping in northern Arizona this weekend and took some shots of the first snowfall of the year. I have only had my digital for a couple of weeks and am just getting the hang of it as a converted Velvia shooter -- thoughts?
Very nice set of images with the first one being my favorite. Love the bright fog in contrast to the dark tree to the right. You capture a wonderful mood there, especially with the two fishermen. Very well done.
Since everyone seems to like #1 best (including me), I'll post the info on it.
It was taken just as the sun peered above the clouds, 180mm f2.8 nikkor in manual mode at +2/3 over the center weighted meter reading of the mist. Exposure was 1/500 at f/14 on a tripod.
Someone asked if they were standing on a boat -- it's an aluminum fishing boat, and they are sitting/leaning on pedestal seats.
Well I like number one the best as well. The imaginary lines from the tops of the two trees in the foreground nearest the boat and then the ones along the bases of all the trees and the line of the shore itself all direct the eye to the boat. Really nice job on the compostiona and exposure.
