There are even more than just the presented here but some of them are not as colourful or are too difficult to photograph.
Just recently I had a chance to photograph two more tanager species that only travel with mixed flocks and I call them the fast and the furious as they donīt stay still for more than a second! those will be published here in future posts.
Thanks for taking the time to comment and give your feedback. All images taken with canon 1D MarkIV, Canon 5D3 and 600f/4 witht the 1.4TC attached.
Excellent work! I'm jealous of your Emerald Tanager shot, the only time I got a good chance at one was the first time I visited Costa Rica more than 10 years ago and I only had a 6MP camera. Every other time they were exactly as you described, fast and furious!!

+1. You will be in Cloud 9 when you are there, Birdie! Just a word of caution: Costa Rica is very addictive!!!
You are correct sir! just last week I drove to the northern part of the country for black-collared hawks, snail kites and the super elusive yellow-breasted crake!!!
