I agree with all this and it would be cool. The only question is price. If Zeiss have redone those lenses 100-300 would very likely be much more expensive than Sony 100-400 GM which is not cheap either. Im sure some would buy it anyway but it would not be enough for Zeiss to bother.

If this would be the case, I'd opt for the GM to be honest.

I haven't shared in this thread yet, but here's a couple of shots I'm pretty happy with. Taking the Contax to Ireland at the end of the month, very excited for some compressed coastline shots!
@Ronny Olsson, I keep going back and forth about letting my 100-300 go. I don't use it often, but every time I take it out and see the results, I end up leaning towards keeping it again.

I had both and just let the 100-400 go. If I had a need for more AF usage, I would have kept the 100-400, but for right now, I won't use it enough to justify keeping it. I prefer the 100-300 for landscape due to size and drawing style (and for 67mm filter thread).

Is a pretty big difference in size
I sold my perfect first copy of the VS to fund the Sony 100-400, but when I got that one in my hands it was a no go.
No way I would carry around that lens on a bicycle or even on a motorbike. Way too big and bulky.
So a second Vario-Sonnar came in and the Sony had to leave again ...
@Ronny
To be fair, you should add the adapter on the VS for size comparison side by side.
It's longer then, but still a lot lighter and smaller than the Sony.

I forgot the adapter so it gets longer .. sry
but just the length I don't think plays such a huge role
It is worse that GM is so much more bulky
At least I have decided to keep both
I see the area of use for both lenses for different motives

Took mine apart to fix the zoom creep. Which I did.
Then I couldn't get the aperture mechanism to work properly. Then I noticed some lint inside the middle lens group, so now I'm hunting for a place to do a "light cleaning" and reassembly.

:/
There is a guy that does fix these!! Does all sorts of "exotic" lenses as well. He told me $150 to clean the 100-300 and re-cement it. Of course you have to pay shipping I believe both ways.

Thanks.
That's who I used to repair the haze on another lens. He did a nice job.
I've contacted him about it, and will see what he says about a price.
Going to contact a shop in NYC on Monday, to see if they can do it, and see if it saves me anything considering the labor rates, and shipping to and from Taiwan.

Can confirm they are totally legit, they've repaired my almost completely separated 100-300 in a very good way, looks like new to me. I had the impression that they are highly professional in what they do.
It's a $250 affair at the end considering shipping back and forth, but totally worth IMHO, considering for how much good exemplaries now fetch on the used market.
