In my testing for Fixed Pattern Noise (FPN, DSNU, PRNU, etc.) the 6D Mark II was pretty good, like the 6D.
The 5D Mark III had higher values.
Another issue, at least with the 5D Mark III I tested, was a wide variation in the Black Level which can lead to the appearance of "banding" as well as hue shifts in the deep shadows.

Appreciate it.

Small point: I was at Best Buy yesterday and had a chance to briefly play with the 6d Mark ii and compare it to 5D mark iv. The new LED indicators are blue in the 6D ii and were much more vivid and clear to my eyes than the ones in mark iv.

FYI, I bought the 5d mark iv.

I'm thinking of doing the same thing or swapping over to Nikon, not decided yet.

The B&H Event Space with the 6DII, htt p://www.facebook.com/bheventspace/videos/10158999366280462/ mentions that the 6DII is Class 4 Weatherproof.

Does anyone know what that means?

I did some searching and could not find Weatherproof ratings, but I did find some Waterproof ratings.

A Class 4 Waterproof rating from this website: http://www.thewaterproofstore.com/wara.html states:
Class 4 – Waterproof and submersible to at least 3 feet, but no more than 12 feet (maximum depth varies by manufacturer).

I cannot see any camera out of the box unprotected by a waterproof housing being dunkable.

Can someone point me to where the Classes of Weatherproofing are defined?

I've never found any definition and in the absence of any definition that comment seems pretty meaningless to me.
Waterproof is not weatherproof and I have never seen Canon use the term 'waterproof'...in fact I don't recall them using the term 'weatherproof' but they do talk about cameras having 'weathersealing' or being 'weather resistant'.

Agreed, Waterproof is not the same as Weatherproof.

I don't know if you watched the video, but the Class 4 Weatherproofing is mentioned twice, once by the guy from B&H and once by the presenter, Canon Explorer of Light, Adam Jones.

That's why I was hoping there was a chart somewhere explaining the Weatherproofing classes.

I sent an email to Canon Canada Support asking about the Class 4 Weatherproofing that was mentioned in the B&H Video and got this reply:

Canon does not use any specific class system to describe the level of dust and/or weather resistance in our cameras. While there do exist different class systems for waterproofing out there, one will find varying definitions for what each class actually means depending on manufacturer. In terms of the 6D Mark II, it has dust and weather resistances which means that it has many gaskets around the all of its seams and buttons that help prevents liquid and dust from entering the unit.

That being said, the camera is absolutely NOT waterproof and should never be submerged in water for any amount of time as this will damage the electronics and cause corrosion over time.

The dust and weather sealing is designed for very light rain and will give a photographer enough time to get out of the rain or protect the camera from the rain with a cover. If you are caught in heavy rain,do not leave the camera unprotected as if enough water accumulates on the surface of the camera for a long enough amount of time, it could eventually find its way into the camera. If a photographer knows ahead of time that they will be in the rain, a dedicated rain cover for the camera and lens is definitely recommended.

IP 4 is proof against splashes afik

But no camera with a changeable lens can be tested so no cameras are actually rated

I understand that...but... watch the video, 42-55 seconds in. "That rain was really scary. But then I turned around to Eric Stoner from Canon and said 'Hey, is this thing weatherproof?' And he was like, 'Class 4 weatherproof, no problem.'"

http://www.facebook.com/bheventspace/videos/10158999366280462/

That's the statement for which I am looking at clarification.

FWIW, I believe their description of weatherproof means the camera and lens will hold up to wet fog, light drizzle for short periods of time. I would never trust exposing this, or any other, camera to heavy rain no matter what. But if you must shoot in heavy rain why not use a special waterproof rain cover?

No arguments from me. All I am looking for is an explanation of what they mean by Class 4 Weatherproofing. It's got to be defined somewhere.

http://www.thewaterproofstore.com/wara.html

=========================

Class 1 – Water resistant for light rain or light splash applications. The product could be permeated by water in any of the following situations: prolonged water exposure, heavy top-down watering, forceful water pressure applications, or submersion.

Class 2 – Waterproof in top-down watering applications. The product could be permeated by water in any of the following applications: forceful water pressure, water injected from odd angles, or submersion.

Class 3 – Waterproof so tight it floats or can handle quick submersions. The product could be permeated by water in any of the following applications: prolonged submersion, submersions greater than 3 feet in depth, high water pressure applications.

Class 4 – Waterproof and submersible to at least 3 feet, but no more than 12 feet (maximum depth varies by manufacturer). This is the first class we refer to as truly submersible. Suitable for underwater sports such as swimming and snorkeling, where great depths are not common. The product could be permeated by water in any of the following applications: submersion greater than manufacturers recommended depth rating, constant submersion longer than 24 hours, extremely high water pressure applications where seals could be damaged.

Class 5 – Waterproof and submersible to depths greater than 12 feet (often as much as 100 feet – varies by manufacturer). Suitable for any underwater sport of less depth than the manufacturer’s maximum depth rating. Common applications include scuba diving, snorkeling, search & rescue, and white water rafting. The product could be permeated by water in any of the following applications: depths greater than the manufacturer’s maximum depth rating or any physical force that could jeopardize the water-tight seal.

"Class 4 Weatherproofing" is very different from "Class 4 Waterproofing".

Here's some sites that provide more info on weatherproof ratings (not waterproof ratings).

Just a "minor" difference.

I don't care what they say ... I"m not gonna use it for Class 4 Waterproof applications.

And I hope I never subject it to anything more than Class 1 ... now about rolling that kayak with it, hmmm.

Getting to spend a little time with it ... I can't seem to find how to view the histogram. Manual references the histogram using live view, but I'm just looking for it for image review (i.e. chimping).

Press info, comes up live view on third push. Canon has their act together when it comes to the touch screen, more I use it better I like it. Have not tried it in review mode but it would be cool if it works there too.

I've sent an email to B&H asking what is meant by Class 4 Weatherproofing as per the event that was broadcast. Hopefully I can get an answer from them.

Those ratings refer to products other than cameras. Need to read it more carefully.
