That is a nice upgrade from the original 6D. Canon added just enough features to make it 'attractive' but still hold some pro/advanced features for the 5D series (specially 5D4 and whatever inventory left of 5D3)
Some of the benefits I can think of the 5D3/4 include:
1. Better build (Weather sealing, ergnomics and button placments) - both 5D4 and 5D3
2. Joy Stick - 5D4 and 5D3
3. Dual Card Slot - both 5D4 and 5D3 (absolutely must for any professional work IMO)
4. 4K and video features (specially after the firmware update) - 5D4 only
5. Better focussing and AF point coverage in full frame corners - both 5D4 and 5D3
5. More customizable - both 5D4 and 5D3
6. Better shutter rating/speed - both 5D4 and 5D3
7. Better f8 support with more lens combos - 5D4 only
8. Exposure compensation in Manual mode - only 5D4 and I love it
Some Benefits I can think of Cano 6D II over 5D series
1. Tilt screen (may be for some)
2. Price ($1500)
3. Weight

That is the thing, I just don't need anything more right now. Sony A9 is the most intriguing but way overpriced IMO. I am using D500, 5D4, 1DXII and 1DX(soon to be sold) so I'm set for now. I just need to start concentrating on photography and stop chasing new gear.

Going to the dark side or to Sony?
Regarding Nikon with all these groundbreaking electronic apertures, newfangled Fluorite elements, PF elements, and rumored internal 1.4x extenders, I'm not sure that those won't be leap-frogged in the not too distant future.
If going to the A9, A99 II, or the like with the GM lenses. . . I can understand completely.
It is disappointing that Canon isn't pushing harder to compete in the lena race on any criterion other than price.
I'll miss your posts and your pet Bald Eagles.
I will still be shooting Canon and Nikon. The A9 has intrigued me but I still find the cost prohibitive in Canada ( one body and a 100-400 GM with grip comes in at 9K CDN). I just want to downsize the gear and concentrate on the shooting. I will still have a close look at 7D3 and will be looking at D820 but will try to refrain😎
However I will be moving away from my eagles so the nest shots are coming to an end this next month. But I will try to find some fishing eagle opportunities on Vancouver Island.

I don't understand:
1. Comparing this camera to a camera that costs nearly 40% more and asking why it doesn't have the same features.
2. Wanting an entry level DSLR that has a primary purpose of taking still photographs to be able to shoot cinema level quality video in 4K for no additional cost.

I have the 5D4 , i have a feeling the 6D2 sensor will be better, like the 6D sensor was better than the 5D3
I'm hoping that this is the case, but an early hands-on review reports: "According to Canon representatives, the 6D Mark II should outperform the original 6D but may not offer the same kind of dynamic range and absolute resolution of the EOS 5D Mark IV." Obviously the resolution will be lower, but I was hoping that the payoff for the lower resolution would be at least slightly less noise and slightly wider dynamic range!

slightly wider dynamic range!
Hoping for "slightly wider dynamic range" ... I wouldn't toss the baby out with the bath water just yet, merely based on some marketing verbiage.
Imo, the thing to watch here will be WHERE in the ISO band will the pixel size, well depth, array, etc. harness / utilize its strengths / weaknesses. Will it be same, less or more than the others at base ISO, mid-range or uber-high ISO.
If they have set it up to be better at mega-high ISO, then it may not have "more" DR at low ISO than the 5D4. That wouldn't mean it was a "lesser" capable ... just that the gears were set up a bit differently ... kinda like having 4.10 gears means more "romp" than 3.23 gears, but not quite as good cruising mileage. So many things are degrees of compromise ... and our beloved craft is predicated on a multitude of diametrically opposed attributes that are simultaneously desirable, yet challenging to accommodate both ends of the spectrum optimally.
On the other hand, if they improve the base ISO DR, it might mean that the higher ISO isn't "better" than the 5D4.
I think the thing to consider here isn't that one will be "BETTER" than the other, but I bet we'll see that they are simply set up "DIFFERENT", and you may have some cross-over at where in the ISO / DR realm the different models perform. I'm hoping they lowered the base ISO (akin to the 80D) to reap more gains there (but this may be not the case vs. the 5D4), with virtually none / nominal reduction to the uber high ISO range DR.

I'm currently debating 5DSR (for resolution) vs 5DIV (for DR). If the 6DII matches the 5DIV dynamic range, then it'll be 5DSR vs. 6DII, as 26 MP vs. 30 Mp is pretty much a push.
I'm currently debating buying the 6DMKII as a replacement for my 5D2 and to partner my 5DSR

Full Spec Sheet ... might be a couple pleasant surprises (# of assignable buttons, spot meter area @ 3.2%, EC range, etc.) and a few other notes (i.e. 6.5 fps with IS turned off on 100-400 II) of interest for a gander.

This isn't a late D750
It's a big jump on the aging d610.
5d4 is the D750 competitor if anything.
For me it'll all be down to how the sensor performs.
5D4 is D810 competitor so is 6D to D610.
D750 is cheaper version of D810 and had no direct competitor
until now by 6D2.
It will be interesting how Nikon will respond, all D610, 750, 810 are due
upgrade. IMO Nikon will merge D610 with D750 and create slightly better camera than 5D4 under $3000
and will also create D810 succesor with more MP at: $4000 plus.
Both Canon/Nikon should create proper FF mirrorless camera with native F/EF mount already. It takes them
forever to do so. They must be loosing sales to Sony / Fuji.

I'll likely come back to Canon for this. I personally prefer the prices/availability of their glass, and their video AF to anything else. I've been waiting for a full frame camera with articulating screen and dual pixel AF for a while now. Going to sell my D750 and glass to fund it and pick up an SL2 for my wife so we can share glass. I can do without the 4K

Figured someone would chime in pretty quickly about the lack of a second card slot and 4K video... I can agree with the card slot thing. Probably would have been a good idea to slap another slot in there, even at a slower rate for dual-recording RAW + JPEG or whatever.
On the 4K front... I'll probably be shot for saying so, but 4K video isn't practical for most users. Most people aren't editing on 4K screens so can't even see the resolution properly. Most people don't even have the equipment to properly handle the large files produced by 4K DSLRs. And most end-users are viewing footage from 4K cameras on laptops, smartphones and tablets. Not 4K televisions. Content viewed on a large television screen is typically more cinematic (BluRay, streamed 4K content, etc.). A lot of 4K shooters I know downres their 4K to 1080 and use the extra "size" for cropping. I will admit that 4K sampled to 1080 is typically sharper than 1080 at 1080. But again, at small screen sizes, nobody is noticing.
And if you're shooting 4K for "cinematic" purposes (i.e. you're a big shot in Hollywood or whatever), you're probably not shooting with a Canon 6DII. You'll be using a RED camera or some other system that is more geared towards high-end cinematic shooting. Not that the 6DII couldn't handle it, but I doubt you'd walk on the set of Transformers and see them shooting with a bunch of Canon DSLRs.
I'd rather have REALLY stable, high quality, fully functioning 1080/60 that can run for 30 minutes than 4K/30 that can only run for 3 minutes because the camera overheats. Also... Working with 4K is a PITA. So I don't see that as a big deal.
The pros in this camera far outweigh the cons, in my opinion....Show more →
Underplaying the value of having 4k video is crazy, like completely insane. It's like saying "I dont need 24mp, 6mp is good enough". How many people do you hear saying that? You can hardly even buy a 1080p television anymore... the time for every camera to have mandatory 4k is upon us, making excuses is silly.
