I think everyone in this thread have finally tipped me in purchasing a 28/1.4E I have mine on hold and will acquire during the week. I did not need this lens... not really

Three cheers for Charles! I'm still reviewing the performance but price is easily justified. The E can safely be considered Nikon's best ever WA lens in technical terms. In that regard, it betters the Siggy 35 Art—no mean feat. One stops down for DOF, not to gain sharpness. There is vignetting wide open, of course (I fix it in-camera). Defocus color fringing is present, but CA is just about nonexistent. It's quite a hefty prime for the FL even on my single-digit bodies. A Summaron 28 it is not.

Agreed, it would be nice if it was just a tad smaller, but if it's the price we pay for such excellent optical performance I'm ok with it
I really like the natural vignetting from the lens - when I edit, I typically only correct vignetting on this lens by 50, not the full 100. I find that the full 100 vignette correction in lightroom is usually a bit too much actually for the 28 f1.4E, as for many scenes it seems to overly correct and start clipping outside the center.

Thank you very much My intention for the 28E is to replace the 24 and 35 Art while traveling. My trip to Spain I will just take the D850 28E, 58G and 105E and for Marisa the D750, 50/1.8G and 85/1.8G which will be perfect.
For WA's lenses I do not mind vignetting as I find artful for portraits as it is usually wide open. Weather resistance is a big plus for traveling which the Art's do lack. The 28E is about 5mm longer than the 35 Art and about 10mm longer than the 24 Art but about 20gm lighter.
With the D850 having better AF off center will also be great for street portrait/photography. With Art lenses this can be hit/miss.
My 28E arrived late this afternoon and I already love this lens My AF correction is -5 on the D850. Again I have to accustom my mind's eye to the 28mm FOV as I have been using a lot of 35mm. Initial gut feel this is probably one of the nicest WA's I have owned. I must admit I was reluctant as I had the 24/35 Art and I did not see why I should opt for the 28E.
That was fast, Charles. Your penchant for environmental portraits will make this lens a daily shooter. Just keep people out of the corner to avoid egghead effects. I just confirmed that E corners are softer due to outward field curvature. The behavior is only at all noticeable in the deepest corner and at largest apertures. Brick walls and landscapes will look best from f/5.6 but only if the corners have any content. The defocussed corners look perfectly smooth, not smeared as with astigmatism or coma.
Thanks Rico I am glad I listened to people here on the forum as you can look at all the specs but it gives you no clue as the feel and whether you will love this lens. Previously I had about three Nikkor 28mm lenses for traveling through Asia during Nikon film days. Then again with the Leica M9/M240 with 28 Elmarit and Cron both very nice but not the feel of the 28E.
Shot this evening of Cous Cous assisting while I was checking the calibration of the 28E.
We are staying in the Outer Banks for a week, and figured I'd try my hand at photographing the Bodie Lighthouse at night. I might go back later in the week on a less cloudy night, but turned out decent I think.
