Sweet that is a beautiful series!
The eyes of this species are spectacular and you imaged them perfectly.
A species I've never seen
The focal lengths you are working at seem effortless to you!

Thank you MedicineMan.
They are plenty here in Southern CA and active from around this time until Feb or Mar. If you would like to get away from snow this winter, I can have some locations for you

Did you capture them at San Joaquin WS? I heard that they are active now. So, a few shooting buddies and I went there but they were too far away. I had the exact same gear as yours and yet, they were tiny in comparison to yours. Excellently-captured images and thank you for sharing!
I took out my newly acquired lens this morning to evaluate the AF performance. I am impressed with how well the Canon 600mm Mark II lens autofocuses using MC-11. Even with the 1.4X TC, the AF seems to be effortless for acquisition and tracking. I venture to say it is about 95% that of a native lens. Do you use a Canon 1.4X Mark III TC for those? Alex gave me a tip to use the Sigma TC-1401 for a little swifter AF acquisition at 840mm and I believe he is right.

Yes, all were shot at SJWS and were cropped to about 8mp. I guess I was lucky that they got close enough but sometimes they will get close to you, even too close to shoot...
I really like the A9-Canon 600mm f/4 combination with or without Canon 1.4x III TC. But I would say it is about 80-85% of native lens, to me.

Robert, I haven’t had the chance to try this lens under real-life conditions. But by just checking it out at my backyard, yes, it seems to work better. Let me make sure thought, the difference is not like night and day. It achieves faster AF but again, this is using the Sigma MC-11, okay?

Outstanding results. Agree it is a gem combo?
I know you don't have the weight issues but that combo, even with the 1.4TCiii, can be wielded forever!
p.s. I'm waiting for a 2.0TC to get here from Japan....must be a slooooooooooooow boat.
