Hi everyone, I am late to the party but here are a few images of an Osprey diving sequence taken with EF500/4 MKII + 1.4TC III adapted with MC -11 ( both camera and MC 11 were updated with the latest firmware on 9-15-18). This combo is good enough in good light but I just found out that Ef400/4 DO II paired with 2XTC has better AF response, so more pictures will be coming. Thanks to Geoff for helping out with initial settings. However, I can't set the sd cards to auto switching so that one card get filled in the middle of the action, the other card takes over. I even pulled out the filled card but the camera keeps saying insert card to slot 1( but being with the camera with just two days I could not find the menu quick enough hence I lost a few good opportunities to capture great Osprey actions). All shots were Handheld.
Ruhikant that is an awesome series! I love Osprey with claws outspread before the plunge for prey.
This past weekend I adapted via Commlite the a9 to the Nikkor 300PF and 1.4TCiii. Such fun playing with all the possibilities and yet another thanks to Arbitrage and Alex for the idea. I too have adapted the 400DOii to the a9 platform, but for me (age) even the 400DOii is seemingly heavy now. The 300PF is a featherweight! Even the 500PF that just arrived seems lighter. Of course being F5.6 vs. F4 it should be

Awesome shots....the A9 is so good even adapters don't get in its way of nailing shot after shot. I forgot to send you better answers to your original questions. PM me with any more questions you have.
I will say that what you want to do with the 2nd slot taking over after the first is filled can't be done I think you could either stick a new card into Slot 1 or would have to menu dive and change the primary slot to slot 2. You can probably make that a shortcut in MyMenu to speed that up....20FPS can fill a card fairly fast if you aren't careful!!
My A9 + Canon 600mm f4 II + MC-11 combo worked pretty well until last night after I updated the camera firmware to V3.10 and MC-11 firmware to V1.16. Autofocus now works intermittently. It will stall at random distances without focus hit but mostly near MFD. For instance, if I aim the lens at couple feet beyond MFD, the camera will try to focus then stops trying without focus hit and just stays there, pumping AF button does not help until I turn the lens focusing ring manually. Changing focus targets does not help including trees, houses, cars...
Camera setting is AF-C and Flexible Spot L. Lens distance setting is at Full or 4.5m-16m
The lens works fine with a Canon camera. Also works fine with Metabones IV combo, just slower AF compared to MC-11.
Thank you MedicineMan404. I have no intention to add a 400mm/2.8 either. I naively believed what they said "Improves overall stability of the camera"
To be honest, I don't know whether the effect was caused by the A9 firmware or MC-11's or both.
Sweetf8 I'm going to hope it was the a9 update that I won't do, because I've already done the latest MC-11 update.
I've only got the 400DOii to test but this week the Nikkor 500PF arrived and I've been playing with it.
Using the a9+Commlite+Nikkor 1.4TCiii+300mm PF
For ease of handling, wielding, tracking, this might be my fav. combo of all time; but that is in
reference to large bierds like this Egret. Can't say about smaller bierds yet.

I wonder if anyone experiencing this behavior. ...Show more →
Unfortunately I sold my Canon 600II last week and I've decided not to test fate and update either A9 or MC-11....I was holding back anyways but now reading your experience I will certainly be holding back....FW updates have burned me before (most notably a Sigma update to my 150-600C lens that stopped it working with my Canon 1.4TC).

It was my big mistake. I used to update to the newest firmware from Canon and Nikon but those were all native lenses and cameras.
At least the current setup still works with slow moving subjects or something that I can pre-focus to a nearby distance. After focus hit, tracking still very good.
Below are some images.
A9 + MC-11 + 1.4x + Canon 100-400 II before firmwares update
A9 + MC-11 + 1.4x + Canon 600 f4 II before firmwares update
A9 + Metabones IV + 1.4x + Canon 600 f4 II after firmwares update
Weirdly, the recent A9-3.10 + MC-11-1.16 combo seemed to improve my A9-135/1.8 af. Though I take photos of slower things than you kids do!! Best to all.

I've almost forgot about Metabones since owning/using MC-11.
Maybe time to revisit Metabones?
It sits idly on a shelf.
It is almost like one needs to own both adapters and then if you update FW, be ready to switch to the other one just to have at least one adapter working as you'd like
I'm waiting for more brave souls to update FW before I do it....maybe I will just do the A9 and not the MC-11....hmmmm....I would guess that it is Sigma FW that messes adapted lenses up more so than A9 FW....but who knows
