If even Sigma or Tamron brought native FE 150-600 to Sony I would swap my 1DX for A9, but seeing everybody having to resort to 100-400 + TC's still and only a 400 f/2.8 on the close horizon, is frustrating. I wonder if Sigma will port the 500 f/4 to FE mount in the same lazy way they did their Art lenses or if they'll do it from scratch. Tamron SP 500 f/4 VC would be nice and they tend to build lighter and better built lenses than Sigma, not that the Sigma 500 f/4 isn't well built.
I'd rather just have an A9R with 40+MPs but A9 Sensor, AF and EVF tech to get the extra reach over a heavier/bulkier 150-600 lens.

What are your thoughts so far on the different systems? I'm shooting both systems back to back right now.
I've been shooting with Nikon for over 20 years. Somehow my A9+140 BIF picture never reached the same sharpness and clarity as those from D500+250 combination. Again, I'm still learning A9 system, I'm sure the problem is on myself.
For example, the following are from D500

Is it perhaps the 1.4TC that is used on the 4 images in your previous post (presumably to get similar reach to the D500 crop camera)? No matter how good a 1.4TC may be, I also find that especially clarity and transparency always take a hit compared to a bare lens, especially when it is a f5.6 lens.
I am also contemplating switching to Sony mirrorless for birding, coming from a Pentax K3II and the DA560, but am waiting for a Sony crop camera with 24mp stacked BSI sensor, because a f5.6 lens (like the Pentax DA560 or the Sony FE100-400) takes a hit regarding clarity and transparency, no matter how good many of the images here look. You still end up with a f8 lens. The A9 AF makes up for a lot, but I would really prefer a (also more affordable) A9-like 24mp crop body.
also learning - first outing with the a9 and 100-400gm - these are from late in the day and most are high iso (2500-6400) - files seem to take noise reduction well, but still getting used to different workflow. however, sharpness and auto-focus combination seems just superb.
portland international raceway, omrra weekend in may, i probably should have used a faster shutter speed, A9 100-400 with 1.4 tc, turn nine. super bike
