Geoff the a9 was/is a bellwether to me. Can't image what the a9ii will be like.
Great shot by the way.

Since you have 1dX/1DXii how do you thing the DR compares?
I give a slight nod to the Sony and the 'slight' is OK considering 6 more fps. But the killer when I'm shooting out of the blind is the silence. Bierds can hear and they react to a loud machine gun!

I think the A9 recovers highlights easier...but the 1DX2 is right up there with it. I have been tending to overexpose a bit more than I do on my Nikon cameras. The Nikons are ISO-less so underexposing doesn't really matter and you protect the highlights (which I find are easy to blow on the Nikon sensors). But the A9 is not totally ISO-less so exposing to the right is still of benefit and with its highlight recovery is not that dangerous.

I bought the A9 for two main reasons: 1) Silence 2) To play/experiment with mirrorless .... the 20FPS is just an added bonus to me!! The blackout free VF was the feature that sealed the deal because without it I can't deal with EVF blackout and lag and would not have bought the camera.

Suspect it has more to do with the photographer than the equipment

The Wood Stork family. Took some patience on my part to wait for all in this rowdy brood to look my way just enough time to fire the shutter.

LBJ wonderful family portrait.
Geoff, excellent as always.

I guess we've all imaged Spoonsbills at one time or another. Last year I did my best Spoonie work at the Stick Marsh, but this year something unique for me....first time ever getting a head on.
I remember when the a9 first starting getting attention and some nay-sayers saying it's a mirrorless and won't be able to track well.
This shot plucked from 20+ all looking same save wing position.
Not the most beautiful Spoonie but a unique pose to me so I was happy-

We all have our good side! Excellent handling capturing the head-on angle with the Spoonie ! Taking a cue from many of you on the forums and Youtube (Mark Smith), I decided to take a drive down to Stick Marsh myself to see what all the excitement was about ( about 1.5 hours drive from Orlando). Wow. Roseate Spoonbill Jackpot for sure! Not to mention the Bald Eagle, Woodpecker pair, Red-shouldered I spotted on the dirt road drive to the waterfront. Still cleaning that fine dirt road dust out of my trunk BTW. Ha ha. Well worth the drive!

Yes I did and thanks. After getting to use Mitesh’s cameras in Florida I was sold on the A9. I wasn’t going to buy it right away as I’m still really happy with my Nikon gear. But right when I got home a member on here who is local to me wanted to sell his one month old A9,100-400 and 1.4TC with a few extras from RRS. The price was right so I went for it. Enjoying the silent shutter which is the main reason I bought it. The D850 shutter noise had been driving me mad and driving the birds back into the bush😱

What's funny is that when I first went from my D810 to the Sony A9, it felt so weird and I felt so insecure/unsure while shooting silent shutter. Now that I have been shooting the A9 for awhile, when I go back to the D810 to shoot the shutter just seems so loud now. Lol.
