OK the 400DOii + 2.0TCiii + a9 is not native, not as native as with the 1.4TCiii but I think for large objects that aren't moving fast (elk as an example) the 800mm will do fine. AF-C of course works fine but (granted crap back light this morning) going from big distances to close (close is relative at 800mm eh) there is 1/2 second for the AF to come to grips.
Regardless my 'feather detail' test is here-
My first camera. I used to borrow this from my Dad in the late-70s. And if you're old and you've heard that zoom lenses aren't as good as prime lenses, the reason for that is right next to the camera -- the 43-86 zoom. :-)
K-H I'm packed for the trip.
I'm hoping the a9 gets the bread-n-butter wildlife shots if we find any wildlife.
The a7Rii is in the Pelican for the landscapes.
The a6500 is packed too for walkaround and if/when I need that increased pixel density.
Lenses are-
12-24
24-70
Batis 18
90 macro
and of course the 100-400 with 1.4 and 2.0
Since we're not really headed to dedicated macro shoots I think the Canon 24-70 with it's pseudo macro mode could allow the FE 90 macro to be left at home.
Anyway here's a shot of a rare rare visitor to my environ-
Sony ILCE-9
FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS
ƒ/8.0 300.0 mm 1/1000 1250 Flash (off, did not fire
I find my a6300 works well with the FE 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G OSS.
That's a great match with a 135 film equivalent FOV of 450 mm focal length.
Both my A7r.2 and a6300 do excessive focus hunting in available light with the FE 100-400mm F4.5-5.6 GM OSS and Teleconverters.
The Sony ILCE-9 doesn't seem to have such issues.
Some youth soccer with the A9 and 70-200 GM. I have been using JPEGs only since I find that they are plenty good for my tastes. Doing so has left me more time to sift though the massive amont of images from the 20fps bursts. Sony's tagline has been the ability to "catch that decisive moment" and it really is valid. After about 20,000 images I can say that this combo has exceeded my expectations on all levels (usability, image quality, focus accuracy, hit rate). The 70-200 is an outstanding lens on the A9, IMO.
Just got the 100-400 a few minutes ago...Wow..It's sharp, it's AF quick decisive and the out of focus rendering is outstanding...First couple shots on the a9
I won't bore you with too many front yard pics
Nice front yard shots!
Just think, a ZOOM so sharp it can take a 2.0TC.
Sony again raising the bar.
I'm just wondering how sharp their 400 will be.
Probably too sharp for my wallet
