There are ways to simulate that.... But I understand your point.
How do you "simulate" removing reflections from water and foliage?

It doesn't take filters, though - so it's of little use to me for landscape photography with no way to attach a polarizer.
I would be very surprised if there isn't a solution for Lee filters and similar systems fairly soon. There are solutions even for the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 which is much less filter friendly.

Is there a physical restraint in WA lenses to putting in line filters like in Super teles?
You have to design it into the optical path, just like you have to design the cover glass into the path.
I had a Canon WA lens at one time, I don't recall which one now, but it had a slot at the back to hold a small gel filter. I never used it, so I don't know what it would do to the IQ.
Leica made the 19mm R II lens with built-in color finters (and a clear one). Other manufacturers did this as well with WA lenses. Polarizers weren't really viable because you'd need to rotate it somehow and that wasn't possible.

Another aspect that crept into my mind after the announcement of these two FE lenses.... The A99 II is pretty much like a big hoorah to make the A-mount users happy that there is a current A-mount camera body but it certainly doesn't look like Sony would be introducing any A-mount lenses soon and puts more if not all emphasis on the E-mount system. Right, wrong or indifferent that seems to be the case... It is a little off-topic though.

Thanks for the knowledge...my inline PL for the Sony 300, 500 and Min 600 has a little wheel for rotating the PL.

There is always a way to attach a polarizer to a lens like this. Worst case you have to wait a couple of months after release for an adapter. If you need a zoom that covers this range then in most(maybe all) cases this is the choice you have to make.

That is the one reason I didn't buy the A99II. It's the camera that probably best meets my needs but it's hard to find the lenses you want and it makes it that much harder to settle for A mount choices as Sony releases more and more options for E mount.

We should do a poll on which one folks may buy. The 16-35 makes more sense for me as i have a nice small CV12 that is very good. I would probably sell my Sigma 24-35 but not sure about my Batis 18mm
When doing PR crap i could even jump into crop mode with the 16-35 and i need 2.8
the Batis 18 is really something special (as is the Batis 25).
but convenience is a serious temptress.
i'm really surprised at it's weight - i expected it to be a lot heavier.
distortion and field curvature will be keys for me.

I kind of regret that I just bough the 16-35/4 now... ><
Funny, I'm in a similar boat. I started this thread asking why there was a 16-35 (with another rumored and now confirmed 16-35), but no 12-24 as I see that working better for me. I ended up buying one very recently. Oh well, I'll enjoy it until the new ones come out.
Edit - actually the more I think about it, I am ok with my purchase. I am not one to usually buy things when they first come out so in all likeliness, even if I hadn't purchased the 16-35/f4, I still wouldn't have purchased the 12-24 for quite a while. I am happy for the announcement though. They both look like solid lenses.

Have to say this is a good release regardless of pricing which no one will ever be happy over. These two at least fill the need both from a Hobbyist and Pros situations and with the new A9 coming a darn good start on Sonys part to really start filling the holes. Its actually hard to decide and i know many folks here sitting on 10,12,15 CV glass than Batis 18,25/ Loxia 21mm glass and even 35mm lenses. Many ways you can go here with options abound. Gotta like that
