I look forward to your testing.
I want the GM to be good - I'd much prefer it to the 12-24. Needing to use 150mm filters is very off putting; I've been through that with my Tamron 15-30 before and would really like to avoid doing it again.
I just tested and it's very easy to use 77mm filters with the 12-24/4. It will not vignette from 14-24mm!
There is an image showing my 12-24/4 with a 77mm breakthrough 6-stop ND filter.

My 16-35 arrived on Friday, but I was out of town all weekend. I took a couple of shots and my copy seems great from the short test. I only tried 16, 21, 28, and 35 at 2.8.
I'm going to take the lens out for a proper spin tomorrow after work downtown. I'll post some tomorrow.

I've done 5 copies and while I have plenty of copies in stock, I'm badly backed up with several things right now. Additionally, our tech who runs the MTF bench is out for a month so I'm having to do them myself when time allows and I'm having to miss a lot of office time for family matters right now.
There's a chance I get them finished this week, but it may well be next week.
Thanks Roger,
As soon as you have this up on the blog, please let me know.
Well I suppose I would have kept because of it's MF and I knew exactly where infinity is which is a little more difficult with the GM having no hard stop. Sunstars are not really an issue for me as actually I would like a lens didn't make them at all!!

I've email Fotodiox about the a wonderpana filter holder for the Sony 12-24mm f4 and they said they will have one ready in a few weeks.
They told me two weeks!
However, I decided not to use filters with this lens and put my entire Fotodiox filter system for sale on the board. It could be a good deal for those who want to use their upcoming adapter on the 12-24/4G.

sticking with the 77mm trick? That could seriously get me to swing this lens rather than the 16-35, I dont have budget for both since I'm also considering the 24-70gm as well!

I mainly use ND filters and the SR app is doing a great job for my needs. I can use a regular 77mm filter if I really need it though.
I was thinking about selling this set a long time ago since my Canon TS-E 17mm days.

I got another copy of the Sony 12-24 yesterday and took about 20 casual test shots against my 16-35 GM at 16mm and 24mm. For my untrained eyes, while the 12-24 has sharp corners, I think the GM is at another level, center sharpness is more less the same. In comparison, the GM has more saturated but cooler colors, the 12-24 looks a bit more yellowish and dull (relative to the GM). The GM handles flair better. I am not really a fan of the ring flairs that are often present in the 12-24 if the sun is in the frame.
At the moment I think I will keep the GM. I have the CV 12mm for the rare occasion that I need that wide.
Just my humble opinion from my casual, unscientific observation. I will wait for Fred to post pictures from his much more methodological comparison test.

I've just ordered my 12-24, however my dealer of preference is waiting for more stock, so ETA is unclear.
In the meantime, I've been editing travel shots from a Baltics trip earlier this summer, and very much appreciating the rendering of colors from the Batis 25.
Anyone have any comments on the colors & rendering in general from the 12-24? I'm specifically interested on comments relative to the Batis 25, but any observations are appreciated.
Here's a couple of shots from the Baltics trip, edited to my preferences (may include some "mangling" courtesy of Flickr, let's see . . .).

Sony 12-24 vs 16-35GM at 16 and 24 mm. Auto focused on the flower pot in the middle, lenses on two different A7RII, handheld, IBIS on. I know it's not scientific but the results are fairly consistent from about 50 shots I took. My observation: 16-35GM > 12-24> CV12.

I had two copies of the 16-35mm F4 and they couldnt hold a candle to the 12-24mm F4. Neither was even remotely as sharp as this thing is at F4 edge to edge. Heck, I am a speed lover so for me to own an F4 zoom that tells you how impressed I was with it!
That has to be the worst article I have ever seen from Lensrental..shame shame.

Just received a copy of Sony's 12-24 f4..... stunned.
I sold the 1635 f4 when I bought the Zeiss Loxia 21mm. I've enjoyed the IQ improvement but missed the UWA perspective at times. After testing the 12-24 at 12, 16, 18 and 21mm I can't believe it's a zoom. At 21mm it seems to match, if not better the Loxia 21 at times. The only thing it won't do is produce those lovely sun stars that the Loxia does..... but at £1150, that's an expensive lens for sunstars :-)
It seems like the mighty Loxia 21 could be up for sale. Just heading out into the Mountains this weekend to see how it fairs but the money from the Loxia could be a good downpayment for a good cine zoom that I need! A Loxia 21mm could find a spot on the "Buy / Sell" forum very soon!
Oh, and the manual focus ring on the 12-24 is probably one of their best. Feels like the 85mm Batis... great lens!

Yup 100% crops from an a7R2. And when I say 'corner' I'm not kidding -- the top right pixel of each of those embedded corner crops is the top right pixel of the frame
The coma performance of the Loxia 21mm is jawdropping
