p.11 #1 · Pre-order Now! Sony FE 16-35/2.8 GM and FE 12-24/4 G
Well, based on the first available dates, neither lens will be available in time for my trip to Iceland this summer, so I have plenty of time to decide on these two lenses once I return.
I guess that's a good thing ultimately, hahaha...
The more I think of it, the more I think the 16-35GM would be the better option to replace my f4 version because it does allow for filters, and I suspect it will perform better in the overlap region anyway.

a 3 mo lead time between announcement and release - this is going to be painful listening to the back and forth
Fred, i half-expected you had the GM in your hands last wk and Sony was going to surprise us by giving an advance copy to someone who could do a legit review.
but 3 mo of "conversations" about speculation on performance, etc and what Sony "should" have done.....this could be painful.
the pre-order A9 thread is over 60 pages already - i'll make the over/under on this thread at 120 pages before the GM is released.
Don't like a thread, stay out of it. What's your beef?

I have zero contacts with Sony. However, I may change that in the future as it would be nice to do a review and comparison to the 16-35/4 ZA way in advance and post it today!
At least we would have a better ideal about field curvature, flare performance, resolution at infinity distance, sunstar / bokeh / color rendering and aberration control.

that's precisely what i was thinking and i would think it would help cut down on a percentage of early buy-returns which is a cost for the entire retail infrastructure.

3 months I hope Sony realizes how much crap I can buy up until than. What are they trying to do to me.
I would love to have product in advance to test. But I don't want to get on that train either in a way. I'm beholding to know one and want to keep it that way.

Maybe I need to do the same...obviously my post flew right over your head. As far as weekends go, hate them...too many 9 to 5'rs out cutting their lawns or walking their dogs. Much better when they are in their fishbowl cubicles.

funny, i usually hate driving around during the week b/c it's always the old people that can't drive on the roads around here - on the wkends they usually hide indoors. i literally time my trip to the UPS store based on when the old folks are taking their afternoon naps. my dad is perhaps the most dangerous of them, who until recently couldn't see out of one eye and was never a good driver to begin with.
Well Erico that's just something you have to look forward to. Slave in your cubicle everyday, slowly getting old and losing your marbles until that day when they open your cage and your are finally ready to join the adult diper crowd.
Oh...an afternoon nap is just heavenly...much more delightful than sitting in a meeting room watching the seconds tick off the clock.

Did a quick currency conversion for the 16-35. Works out to $20US more here in Canada.
For shipping to my address, the 16-35 GM from B&H works out to CA$3443 all-in (based on the current credit card/PayPal exchange rate), or I can buy it from a Canadian retailer for CA$3150 including shipping and taxes - so it's almost CA$300 cheaper to buy in Canada.

Guy, all you need is a YouTube channel where you continually post videos about how each successive new Sony camera will someday day KILL CaNikon, and poof... you will become a Sony Artisan!

Yea that's all it would take for sure. Lie through my teeth. Lol
I'll pass thank you very much. I think I'm much more appreciated by the folks here and GetDPI for my honesty and flat out blunt comments.
Btw I need a nice facelift as well. I'll pass. Lol

Sony seems pretty accommodating in this regard, you should contact them, they recently had an event for alpha members to shoot with the A9.

Okay back to these lenses. Have to say even though I'm probably not going to buy it because I like primes at the very wide side of thing the 12-24 can be a deadly little weapon when traveling as for a lot of folks that vacation in Europe for instance. Streets are narrow and just so much architecture to shoot. But Sony blew it with the time framing with everyone's vacation. Of course most Europeans do take vacation in August for 6 weeks this lens would be out in time. Most US citizens it's usuall the end of the school year so June would have been much better for us folks. Funny the other day for the 12-24 it said June 31 . Today when I looked it said July 31. Maybe bad info at the start

That's funny the last couple of years I've gone to Europe around the June/July time frame and it seems like Sony has been announcing lenses in March/April. The first thing I look at is this going to be available by my trip?

Yes that direction is cheaper. B&H Canadian inflation I call it.
