Had a business trip this past week up in CT and couldn't stand the thought of not getting out during my free time to try and capture a few images around the area. (Itchy shutter finger at all times)
Didn't find much to shoot in my choice of genres, but after a 5 mile hike I did find a waterfall.
I didn't want to risk taking my big gear so I bummed my granddaughters little Sony P&S she got for Christmas last year.
I know these are not wall hangers but for a little P&S I think they turned out ok.
I'm not use to shooting so limited without RAW and manual control so a few suffer from blown highlights.
The first image below was inspired by a few of you folks that have had conversations about capturing such scenes.
On the last image I do have another without the fisherman. I prefered this one because I thought he added a nice context and depth. Yes? No?
I like your path shot! Just the right amount of trees and trunks with the right color to my eye!
Last shot with the person is a nice grab also. Looks like a great memory to have socked away and you can just hear the water. It would be nice to see that same shot with some different light. I just looked up your rig and I don't see anyplace to attach a big strobe!
Love the play of greens vs. browns and the 90 degree lighting casting tree shadows perpendicularly.
Tweaked it some and of course was a bit heavy with the burning but you get the general idea.
Two waterfalls are snaps for me, but I like the fisherman shot. Definitely stronger with him included as he's a nice little surprise after your eyes head down the falls. Gotta be peaceful as all hell with that rushing water and no people around(well, other than creepy photographers)!

Thanks Kevin, I think my wife liked the path shot the most also. And nope no place to connect a strobe on that little thing. I had to use the wrist strap because it almost fell between my fingers a few times.
Talk about awkward as hell coming off a DSLR for several years.

Thank ya Jeff.
Ha! Good to see you and I are on the same track (or should I say path) with the processing on that shot.
Take a look at the below sooc image and you'll see I had already went down the same path (pun intended) as you did. Albeit a little heavier than where I took it. I had actually went further, similar to your edit, but backed off for fear of the dreaded computer blindness after playing with it for too long.
The image that is.
Working on the jpegs off this camera sucks compared to raw files off our DSLR's. I thought they would be much better IQ wise for an 18mp little thing but nope, they are very much lacking.
But it gave me an excuse to get the heck out of dodge and way from people.

Nice job on the first one. I like the processing very much and it is impressive what a nice image you can coax out.
Where in CT?
Scott
+1 at the coaxing is about a country mile from what the sooc looked like it had to offer. Nice job.
No raw ... but, can you at least adjust your jpg settings to lower contrast / lower saturation / lower sharpening ... you know, just turn the burner down to a low simmer so it doesn't come out overcooked before you toss it in the oven for final baking.
Started down a different path (pun) and wound up here. I probably spent too much time "looking & cooking" at it (and should start over), but hopefully you get the gist ... or the start of one, anyway.

Thanks Scott. This was near Hartford / Farmington CT.
Couldn't pay me enough to live there but I must say their spring colors are absolutely beautiful with all the flowers and tress in full bloom mixed with the lush greens.

Thanks for the pick Ben.

Thanks Kent and you nailed it on your edit, nice job on the conversion. I might try my hand at processing it like that.
The waterfall shots were coaxed about the same and made a huge difference from the sooc files.

Many eons ago I lived in W Hartford. I was just wondering....
Kent: Great job on the BW

Dang, I wish I would have known that. I would have been pestering you for good places to go shoot. Half the time I'd put a google map search in for a nature park or similar and it would take me 30 miles up the road to a parking lot in an apartment complex. Waisted many evenings doing just that.
Ha! Why not Lyle! I like the last waterfall shot with the fisherman. The falls has a psychedelic effect. Thought I slipped back to the late 70's there for a moment.
