I didn't know such lenses existed.
However, several years ago I saw a Canon's block diagram of an EF (perhaps FD ?) 300mm f/1.8 lens which looked very similar to 200 f/1.8. As far as I can recall, Canon never built a prototype, let alone contemplated the production seriously. In those days even 200 f/1.8 was not selling well enough for Canon, therefore, 300 f/1.8 would have probably been a stillborn had they ever launched it.
Fast stuff.... but back then a 1600asa (ISO) was a BIG push!!!

Hey, if they had known that the FM forum community would come about - with its wealthy individuals ready to spend just about any sum of money on long, fast glass - they woulda made that lens a mass production item.
