Should Canon/Nikon be scared of this?
Not really.
The camera does indeed impress.
However, now that it's out there, I think it would be easier for Canon and Nikon (esp. Nikon) to build a high-end mirrorless competitor to this ... than it will be for Sony to build an entire super-telephoto lineup that can match Canon's or (esp.) Nikon's.
The current Sony super-telephoto lenses are over-priced duds, based on old Minolta specs, failing to match Canon super-teles, let alone Nikon's new lineup of FL ED series.
Therefore, taking 20 fps through lousy lenses is not as exciting as taking 10 fps through the best super-telephotos made by anyone.
Thus, while the camera's specs are exciting to review, the lenses to put at the end of it are a buzz kill.
I believe it will take Sony longer to bring an array of competitive super-telephoto lenses than it will take Nikon to come up with one helluva mirrorless equivalent ... that will instantly have access to their peerless super-tele prime lens selection.
Cameras are outdated within a year ... lenses take much longer to grow old.
Sony's camera is new ... but its super-tele choices are the lowest, oldest, and least-impressive of all.
