Imagine spending a single night in the bush knowing this guy is around. Now imagine you are an impala and have to do it night after night after night. It is enough to give you goosebumps.

That's a very powerful image, Eric! The darkness in the frame is haunting and invokes the emotion of fear, while the spotlit Jag lets the viewer's imagination grab a hold of that fear and run with it!

So glad you all liked this image....night time photography in general is unproductive but this year it was what made the trip...luckily the guides used white light as in the recent past a red filter was employed and rendered night photography impossible.

A dominant male leopard has very few things to be afraid of....lions for one, maybe another male who would be threatening to its territory and that's about it. And because all these cats have grown up around vehicles and people they are certainly not afraid of us as long as we are within the vehicle.

Thanks so much...all the lighting is from a spot light held by the guide and he did a great job with it.

Thanks so much. We are in an open Land Rover. The animals are never baited. They are tracked and found and in this case it was with a warthog that it had killed sometime within the past 24 hours.

I have taken thousands of leopard images and have never had a cat respond at all to the shutter clicking. They have been around vehicles and photographers for many years and as such we are pretty much ignored. The eye contact happens and I'd like to say it's because I'm very intriguing but of course that isn't the case.
