I'm hoping the sun stars are similar both have 9 blade. Will see. Maybe when I'm done testing Fred i can send to play with against the Loxia
The Firin will render a 18-point star and the Loxia 10-point star since it features a 10-blade straight aperture.

I know these are just quickie shots, but off-hand I'm not liking the color cast or contrast too well. Distortion does look well controlled though. I remember Joshua's Sigma 20 was amazing on his Las Vegas interior and exterior shots. Wish you had one of those and the Loxia 21 to run as comparisons.

Do not go by the kitchen or family room. Even my 60 mpx medium format 40 k dollar back renders it the same way. I was afraid to post those because I knew that would come up. Ignore the color there. I did it for distortion only. I do these things in sections sometimes. Only look at that for vertical lines. It's a serious nightmare with light. In real life I would use strobes overpower the daylight and let just a little bit of orange light burn in. Not only are they tungsten they are orange glass in those lights. It's a double whammy.

Guy,
Really appreciate you doing this "for us". I've had this lens on my radar since it was announced as a cheaper, more luminous Loxia, at the expense of a little weight and size. On top of everything else mentioned already, really interested in the coma performance for astrophotography.

Im going to have to get out of the city for the Astro stuff. I don't do much of it but I would like to see the coma as well. I also want to keep it under 15 seconds or so. Sounds like a road trip.

Thanks Guy. I am not enamored with the bokeh, but I want the speed for night street shooting more than creating shallow depth of field wonders. So far, the lens looks promising.

It's reminding me of the Tamron 35 1.8 tests I did awhile back. Sharp as hell across the frame even wide open. But with that the bokeh may suffer some and I could get some onion rings. For a 20mm for many that maybe not a issue. Sure it will for others but this may turn out to be a interesting lens to have in the bag. If it does Astro and night stuff well than it could be a winner for some. It maybe a touch on the clinical side. Will see how this comes out. I owned the Loxia 21 for quite awhile so we have some comparisons to look at. Just got to find it all. Even though different times we can get a idea at least. I had a t great Loxia 21 too. Heavy tests shots tomorrow'. I'll be loading Raws up to folks. We all process differently but on these test images I do very little besides a base sharpening. We should have a better feel for it but my bet is what I said above. Do think the bokeh could improve at 2.8 or 4. I will do some series of that

Seriously I do not want to mislead anyone that's just a terrible image for color. It's like living under a heat lamp here. I like the look in the house .

I'm not a pixel peeper so sharpness/distortion look good enough for me.
If all else is equal I'll take the Firin for the extra stop for astro. The big question will be the flare resistance, contrast into the sun, and sunstars though. All spots the Loxia shines bigtime and the DP poster said the Tokina did not fare well there.

Out shooting since 5 am . Got some night shots with sun stars. This lens is really nice in the dark to shoot. Going to run some sharpness tests . Waiting for more light

So this is my night time series. I was really after a few things here to see whats up. First off really strong and sharp images. Thats the good thing. But wanted to see SunStars and any Flaring as well. Hoped to pick up some stars but its was thin clouds this morning. I will work on that this week.
Look at Exif data as that tells the story. I did apply a basic sharpening and here i did play a little with shadows and highlights and a touch of color balance what i like. I started off in daylight than switched to AWB. So you can play around with that as i am putting all these raws up for you folks to work on. Not a color test here. Really not even a test just some fun shooting and hopeful it tells us something
