It's got to do with folks (not Art Morris personally, as he would never do that) who had crossed over the railway line to get a closer shot (which is dangerous and illegal) of the Sandies in the mist. It's freaking amazing when there is a good morning mist in that area. They have since dried out that pond which is really too bad.

Great set Joshua and ya got me vote! It was a refreshing change to be shooting these environmental images, isn't it? Just have to adjust and adapt to whatever Mother Nature throws at you!
Thank you very much, Bobby! Yes, we had to make it work and to make the trip worthwhile, at least psychologically .

Wow, you have indeed done Bosque right with these images, terrific work.
Louie, thank you very much, sir! I know you like going to Bosque, too. Let's do it together next December then!

Joshua, you did an excellent job of capturing the environment of BdA! Our visit last November was our eighth and won't be our last.
Art
Art, I am flattered that you like the images - thank you! Maybe we can get together there in December?

Gorgeous shots Joshua...the mindset to approach wildlife photography in this manner is not something I am used to doing but it is obviously the way to go at Bosque....special shots beautifully present.

Eric
Eric, thank you for stopping by and for your kind words. Yes, in the last few years, it seems that the actions were a tad further than before. Maybe we need to go earlier in the season to capture actions a tad closer.

Now that I've seen your results I might have to consider a visit.......if I can get into the country by them. After all, I am Canadian!
Don
Don, then by all means, let's get together again in December at this place. I guarantee you that they would let you in . Thank you for stopping by and your compliment.

Love the shots...it looks just like our desert refuges (Klamath, Summer lake, Malheur, and Columbia river. The white geese and Cranes will be moving through in Feb-March in the 1,000s. Avian cholera has broken out in the Columbia refuges already, not a good sign.

This is a lovely set...
Close up birds are nice, but these are beautiful, as they really suggest the essence of the environment.
The black and white image with the beams of light is my favorite from you series...
btw, I think we missed each other by a week, as I was at Bosque over the Christmas holiday... I felt like I had the refuge to myself on the 24th and 25th.

Bruce, thank you for stopping by and for your kind comment! Yup, it certainly looked like we missed each other by a little over a week. There were quite a few photographers while we were there but the number of photographers, just like the number of the sandhill cranes was down relative to several years ago. I remembered that it was not unusual to see 40+ photographers at the Crane Pool at sunset back then and now I would say about 10 or so during our last trip. The sandies seem to be present at a nearby refuge but the roosting place is not accessible, I understood.
We are thinking out loud of getting together starting in the first weekend of December of this year. It would be great if you could make it.
