Bastian,
Did you try a different front lens strength that gives better mid-frame performance for the ZM 35/1.4?
Fred,
unfortunately there is not much choice when it comes to weaker lenses.
A reader tried the Eksma 10m lens with the ZM 35mm 1.4 some time ago but told me there is barely visible improvement compared to the 5m lens.

It was worth a try. Thanks for letting me know Bastian.

Trying to go back here and remember any info on the VC 35 1.7. I have a used one coming Monday and I'm not sure anyone took this lens apart to see if it can be shimmed or not. I tried the 28 ultron and it was a no go.
Also is the PCX 5000 or .5 the one that works
Want to be sure before I order anything. Or if someone has one to sell.
I still have all my mounting step ups and such. Right now I still have a Fotosy M to E as well
Any info would be great and again sorry for memory recall.

I'm pretty sure it's no go on shimming: you have to find a cheap adapter that's too short. Phillip found a (first series) K&F that was short enough. Fred however didn't find one.
It's the 5m that you need; so if 5000 is 5000mm then that's what you need.
Awhile back I bought a Hassy 60mm diameter Proxar .5 and figured I would at least try it out . I got it mounted in a 67mm step up ring from 46mm. I'll test it just in case it may work. I tend to doubt it but hey what the heck. If the CV 35 don't work I may sell it here I got a good price on it so I'll pass that on if I don't keep it. I want something small to travel with in 35. I do like this lens though. I'll test it next week against my FE 35 1.4

Don't bother testing the .5 on the CV, Guy. The .5 is a 2m, and you need 5m.
This may not be something that anyone knows, but ...
Which planar-convex lens would you start experimenting with for an MS Optical Sonnetar 50mm f/1.1? From what people have said so far I'm thinking 5m or even 10m. Does that sound about right?
I guess that only a practical test would give you the right answer. Maybe HaruhikoK (the starter of this thread ) could do a simulation for different PCX filters, but I suppose that he’d need to know beforehand some basic parameters of this lens ( exit pupil distance and diameter, etc..)
PS: the Sonnetar has 55mm filter thread, you may run into problems finding a 5m/10m filter that does not vignette (they are mostly 50mm).
Hello Bastian. Did you phone Eksma Optics to finalize your order? Obviously it seems that they aren't set-up to cater to individuals buying single items for a few hundred dollars or less but are more of an industrial supplier. I was hoping to purchase the coated filter through their website checkout but the coating you listed in the article - 3217-i0 400-700nm - is nowhere to be found. They also don't seem to be very responsive to email.
What an amazing thread, now on page #83. Thanks to all contributors!
Here are my experiences:
I bought the ZM25 again. It was a great lens on my old NEX-5N but useless on the A7R. Now, with the PCX 2500 it is as good as it gets. OptoSigma is now very fast, at least from their European website. The SLB-50-5000PM arrived 7 days after the order, the SLB-50-2500PM came 10 days later.
I was not very happy with the step-up/step-down ring solution and found finally an optometrist with a CNC machine. He reduced the diameter of the lens to fit in an old UV filter ring. The cost was only €15 and the lens is perfectly centered.
After everything was so successful I also decided on a ZM35. A midzone dip in sharpness can be seen when you know where to look for it, however, @f2.2 it is barely visible anymore and @f2.5 completely gone. I'm very happy now with these two lenses making my set compact and light for traveling. I had also considered the CV 35/1.7 but it seems to be impossible to adjust it for infinity which is necessary when using a TAP or the CV close focus adapter. I only wished I had known all this much earlier.
Good News. I received a response from Eksma Optics and the product numbers for the filter and coating have changed. If correct, the turnaround time for filter with coating is only one week. I have pasted the email response with details below for everyone interested:

Sorry I should have said front filter. This is the new info for the Eksma Optics version of the 5m PCX filter. This filter was the one tested by Bastian on the VM 35/1.7 Ultron:

Let us know how it all works out with the CV 35/1.7 + 5m front lens and the adapter recommended by Phillip.
here's my infinity test of the cv 35/1.7 + 5m optosigma filter on the a9 against the same lens on the a9 with no filter and on my kolari UT a7 with no filter:
seems like the pcx gives a 2-3 stop improvement in the corners over the stock a9, but the lens is as good at f/4 on the UT as it ever gets on the a9 even with the pcx filter.
